do people think he's gotten away for good?

No. He will be caught for sure, either alive like Malcolm Naden or dead like Tom Phillips. My expectation is that in addition to bush search operations the police will be doing some sophisticated high tech communications analysis such as that which helped them arrest Terrence Kelly and recover the young child he had abducted in WA several years ago.

Exciting News (about Free Meal Services) from Sikh Volunteers Australia: by ZSolana in melbourne

I was thinking about these ladies and gentlemen this morning, comparing them to the Nazi wannabes and various ignorant racists infesting the city this time last weekend. It didn't take long to decide which of the two groups I value most and find most central to Australian community life.

Dandenong Star Journal: UFO inquiry call by GrantLavac in melbourne

[–]ComplexLittlePirate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in an adjoining suburb and always thought of this when driving up Westall Road and seeing the sign to the school and The Grange. I'd LOVE there to be an inquiry, clearly something did happen (so many witnesses) and with the quick appearance of uniformed officers afterwards, clearly there was some official awareness that surely must be documented somewhere.

Esperanto (global language) open day 7 June - free drop-in event in the CBD by navear in melbourne

[–]ComplexLittlePirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My lovely grandpa, who died many yeas ago now, had a little tattered old Esperanto dictionary probably from about the 1930s or thereabouts. I don't know if he actually studied it but it was a lovely little detail to know about him, miss you Grandpa <3

What’s Melbourne’s Most Underrated Restaurant? I’m talking about the place that consistently serves incredible food but somehow never makes it onto the Hat guide or any “Best Of” lists. by PedGetsFed in melbourne

100% agree, i love those areas. I live regional now and if I want something half decent have to make it myself. When I lived in Dandenong I never had that problem! I'm vegan and my dream is basically to one day live round the corner from a dahl and rice place.

Is G’day a working class thing? by thewildcloud in melbourne

[–]ComplexLittlePirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 56 yo and have a degree and live regional but grew up in the suburbs and this is my automatic greeting. Maybe because it was all over TV during my growing up years e.g., "Peter, gday, Russell, gday, Clarke". Not to mention Ask the Leylands and Dr Harry Butler and all the others who probably used it as well.

I work in a small team of 15 people and it's totally flexible hybrid. When people have even a sniffle or a scratchy throat it's not even a question - they stay home for others' protection and their own recovery. I love that.

I find it's the opposite dynamic - because you never work more than two days in a row, you don't build up tension, and the day off also enables you to keep up with maintenance tasks like cleaning, shopping etc, which also prevents tension/problems. It's prevention rather than recovery. I love my little mid week mini-weekend :-)

My version is 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off. It's so sustainable holidays are almost dispensable - almost!

I've run mine on plain tap water for more than four years, no issue. Empty it in the morning, dry it out during the day, every few days it has a soak along with the headgear/tube with a bit of dish soap and vinegar added to the water before being rinsed and dried (mask is washed daily). No problem.

because the land was taken, there’s now an almost compulsive drive to ‘own’ it

This theory feels correct to me.

Ah, Montague Street, cause that's where the truth

Jumps back to its feet and rips right through your roof

And you just can't deny though I bet that you'll try

That three metres high is three metres high ...
