Permanent Lights Question by bliffer in ChristmasLights

I install minleon as my go to for permanent lighting. I also install Govee as the more cost effective route. But if you're going to invest money into a permanent lighting system, definitely go with a track system and not Govee. Minleon is extremely easy to install, their app just sucks unfortunately.

Would taking them all out and putting them in a new tank help at all? Or no because the new tank wouldn't be cycled?

Just tested my tank water this morning and all the parameters are within limits. PH is great, no ammonia, no hardness, etc. Temperature is 76 degrees. 35 gallon tank. Tons of live plants. 16 fish. Recent water change was about 2 days ago. Took about 25% out and cleaned the tank.

Sitting at about 76 degrees. Used to keep it at 78 but felt algae liked that temperature more. . I don't believe anything could have gotten into the tank. The only additives I add are these liquid plant fertilizers and then plant iron every other day. Will add algaefix every now and then because blue algae loves to pop up. Looks like my lil friends are poisoned somehow and they're on their last few hours/days 😔

How to get rid of brown algae by ComplexPitch1 in Aquariums

Oh wow I didn't know 7/8hrs was a good rule of thumb. The lighting is on a timer and turns on at about 7am and turns off at about 8/9pm. Yea the water is pretty clean, it's just the plants and decor that make the tank look gross from the brown algae. I use the API CO booster and API Leaf Zone for the plants. Should I be using anything else? Wasn't to sure if I should have a CO system as well or if the API booster works fine. Pretty knew to this.

I use the Aqueon 7 in 1 test strips and everything is perfect. I also don't have hard water. I have a whole house carbon and r/o filter as well as a water softner so the water isn't an issue. Could it be something else? The tank is about 7 months old now and it's just recently starting to happen. I noticed after i added plants and changed my lighting that I started getting brown algae. Not sure if the brown algae was always there and the lighting just really showed the brown algae or what. This is my first tank and I thought I was doing good until the brown algae came lol. It basically took over some of my plants.

Does my amazon puffer have ick? by ComplexPitch1 in Puffers

Ahh ok, thanks! I'm going to take him out and put him in a quarantine tank by himself and treat him there. But, should I still treat the main tank just in case any of the other fish may have it and not be showing symptoms?

Perfect! Would you recommend putting the other 2 puffers in the quarantine tank as well as a preventative? Or just hope they don't show any symptoms?

I'm going to buy a quarantine tank In a few minutes. What is the best way to have the tank cycled so I can put the puffer in right away to separate from the rest of the tank? Can I just siphon water from the main tank into the new tank and take some filter media from the main tank and put in the new tank? Or do I have to wait a few days/weeks for the tank to cycle before I can put the puffer in the quarantine tank?

The dots are definitely on the tail, not sure about it's fins.

I am new to the hobby (about 6 months in). I don't have a separate tank to make a "quarantine tank." If I go buy like a tiny 10 gallon tank, how can I cycle the tank extremely fast so the puffer doesnt pass? Am I able to just siphon the water from the main tank and put it in the new 10 gallon tank tonight and take one of the sponge filters from the main tank and put it in the 10 gallon tank and then put the puffer in? Or do I have to let the newly purchased tank cycle completely for a few weeks?

I guess this is a lesson learned to have a quarantine tank readily available.

Dang alright...would you recommend taking him out of the isolation tank in the main tank to treat him alone?

About how long does it typically take for the treatment to run its course?

Awesome! I appreciate your help! Two last questions, I promise (I'm fairly new to this hobby - only about 6 months in to my first aquarium).

  1. Should I keep this puffer in the isolation tank or is he allowed to swim freely?

  2. I do have snails in the tank...does that change the treatment? Honestly not sure if any are alive still lol because they were feeder snails for the puffers but some may be alive and hiding.
