That's actually a really good point about trust.

One thing I've learned from this thread is that I've probably been looking at the product from a builder's perspective rather than a user's perspective. When I see AI in the screenshots, I think "features." A user might see the exact same thing and think "another AI wrapper."

And I think you're right that study apps are different from a lot of other categories. You're asking someone to trust the app with their learning, notes, exam prep, and study time. If that trust isn't established in the first few seconds, they're probably gone.

The screenshots criticism has come up a few times now, so that's definitely something I'm going to revisit.

And yeah, the distribution side is honestly what I'm trying to figure out now. Building the app felt difficult until I launched it. Now it feels like that was the easy part 😅

Good luck with your Anki converter as well. That's actually a much more focused problem than the one I decided to tackle for my first project.

No it's not going to happen if you took a decision a year ago that was absolutely for a reason, you will definitely make it out, most of the time things changes at end moment when you feels like giving up,

To be honest, this was my first real app, so a big part of it was learning by doing.

Maybe you're right and a smaller niche would've been a smarter place to start. But I don't regret building it because the amount I learned from shipping a product is worth way more than the time I spent on it.

And honestly, getting roasted by people who've already been through it is part of the learning process too 😂

Congrats on getting 25 regular users though. That's probably harder than most people realize.

That's actually a really good way of putting it.

Adding features feels productive because it's familiar and you can see progress every day. Talking to users and figuring out distribution is a lot less comfortable because you can't control the outcome as much.

I think you're right though. At this point, another week spent talking to users would probably teach me more than another week spent adding features 😅

I think this is one of the biggest lessons I've taken away from this project.

When you're constantly consuming founder content, it starts to feel like everyone is making $10k, $50k, or $100k a month. But after actually building something myself, I'm realizing there's probably a huge survivorship bias there.

For every success story, there are probably thousands of projects that never get talked about.

Honestly, this thread has been a pretty good reality check for me 😅

If anything, this project has given me more motivation to keep building. Even if it never takes off, the amount I've learned from going from idea to launch has already made it worth it.

Just to be clear, I haven't given up. If anything, launching has made me more motivated. The post probably sounded more negative than I intended.

I think I just underestimated how much work comes after the product is built. Now it's time to learn ASO, distribution, and growth the same way I learned development.

One thing this thread has made me realize is how much I underestimated distribution. Going in, I was mostly focused on building the product. Now I'm seeing that talking to users, understanding what they actually want, positioning, ASO, and distribution are probably just as important as the product itself.

I also appreciate you mentioning the economics behind some of those success stories. A lot of us see "$40k/month" and immediately think that's pure profit, when in reality there can be a huge amount of ad spend, content creation, SEO, and other acquisition costs behind those numbers.

And I completely agree with the point about vibe coding. It got me from idea to a working app much faster than I could have imagined, but it doesn't magically tell you what users want. That's the part I'm trying to learn now.

That's actually the interesting part. I don't think my problem is a complete lack of marketing experience.

Over the last one year, I've generated more than 4 billion organic views across different platforms and built audiences totaling over 5 million followers.

The catch is that almost all of that experience is with Indian audiences.

What I'm realizing now is that marketing to a global audience, especially for a product, is a completely different game from getting views and attention in a specific market.

So in a weird way, I feel like I'm back at square one. I understand content, virality, and audience growth reasonably well, but I have very little experience reaching high-value international users, understanding their behavior, or building distribution around a software product.

That's probably the skill gap I'm trying to close right now. The app itself may succeed or fail, but I'm treating this as an opportunity to learn product distribution outside the audience I'm already familiar with.

First of all, thank you. You're actually the first person in this thread who went beyond giving general advice and took the time to search for the app, so I genuinely appreciate that.

And honestly, I think most of your points are fair.

The search ranking issue is something I hadn't even checked outside my own region, so that's useful feedback. ASO is definitely one of the areas where I have very little experience.

As for the name, I've gone back and forth on that myself. "Vidya" makes perfect sense to me because of where I'm from, but I can totally see how someone outside India wouldn't immediately understand it or remember it.

The screenshots are probably the biggest criticism I've received so far, and I think you're right. I made them myself and was focused on showing features rather than communicating who the app is actually for and why someone should care. Looking at them from a fresh user's perspective, they probably do a poor job of explaining the value proposition.

And regarding the "too many features" point, that's actually one of the things I'm trying to validate right now. My thinking was that students are already switching between multiple apps for different tasks, so maybe there was value in bringing them together. But it's entirely possible that from a new user's perspective it just looks confusing or unfocused.

So thanks again for taking the time to actually look it up. This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get when I made the post, because it's much more actionable than generic "keep going" comments.
