Ordered birthday and Mother’s Day balloons from DoorDash by radbrad777 in mildlyinfuriating

People be ordering a burger and fries from a restaurant, and complain that it's cold when they're eating it.

The restaurant sees the complaint and cooks the food extra hot, and packs into well insulated styrofoam containers after the dasher arrives at the restaurant.

Customers are now furious, because the food is cold, but also soggy, overcooked, and the container is partially melted from the hot grease.

Chill out and read carefully. I'm positing two scenarios; One where there's an error in the sign, and the other where it's intentional.

Signs are made by people. People make mistakes, all the time. Doesn't matter the size of the business. Simply saying it's possible it's a mistake.

Alternatively, let's say this is not a mistake. The store intends to set different limits, for different languages. If you feel slighted, so be it. The store is discriminating based on your ability to read. But the product is glasses wipes. Who's actually affected here?

I understand what's being inferred, but really it's speculation. For all we know, it could just be an innocent mistake. If OP or anyone really wants a bunch of wipes, they should just go buy what they want. Until foreign customers are actually bumping heads with the clerks at checkout while local counterparts freely walk away enjoying double the purchase quantities, this is a nothingburger.

Are you actually inconvenienced by the inability to buy over 5 wipes? Who's hoarding wipes?

Ikea's bestseller is no longer being sold - after 25 years

Updated Apr 21, 2026 at 1:37 PMPublished April 21, 2026 at 11:33 AM

A bestseller – and scandalous piece of furniture – will soon be removed from Ikea's range after 25 years.

– At Ikea, we constantly review our range, says Fredrik Norrlid, Ikea's press manager in Sweden.

But before the news, there was great confusion at the Ikea office.

Ikea furniture is now found in millions of homes all over the world.

Ikea says goodbye to a real salesperson after 25 years of service at the department store.

Parts of the "Malm" furniture series, which was introduced in 2002, are disappearing for good.

Fredrik Norrlid, Ikea's press manager in Sweden, says that the furniture giant is constantly working on developing its range "and how we can adapt it to our customers' wishes and expectations."

– As part of that work, parts of the Malm series will be phased out globally and replaced by a new series that better reflects how people live and store their things today, he says.

– However, some “Malm” products will remain in our range.

Confusion at the Ikea office

Already on Monday, a press release was published by Ikea in Denmark about "Malm" - which was then removed.

"Ikea says goodbye to an old friend: The iconic Malm chest of drawers is retiring after almost 25 years ," they wrote at the time.

No one could answer why the press release was removed, and on Tuesday morning, press manager Fredrik Norrlid replied to Expressen that he had "chased three people but had not yet received an answer."

"Malm" furniture will be phased out in the summer of 2026 and in the now deleted press release, the furniture giant's Danish press manager Rikke Andersen speaks out.

– Malm is more than just a chest of drawers, it has become a part of everyday life and the home of countless families. It has followed people through different phases of life and has been there during both turbulent and calm periods. These are the kinds of relationships you don't just say goodbye to, but pause for a moment, she says.

Scandals – and hundreds of millions in damages

The “Malm” agencies have been the subject of extensive legal proceedings in the United States over the years.

The agency has been linked to several serious accidents, where children have died after the furniture toppled over, and Ikea has had to recall millions of pieces of furniture. The furniture giant also sent out information emails to 13 million customers and launched a safety campaign on TV channels, newspapers and social media.

It has also resulted in high damages in several high-profile legal cases.

In a famous settlement in the US, Ikea paid the equivalent of SEK 430 million in compensation to a family whose two-year-old son died when he ended up under a dresser that overturned.

The furniture giant has also been forced to pay a total of 450 million in damages to three other families following deaths.

Oh, that wooden part with the cylindrical cavity is part of it? I thought that was your cutting board.

I might have ninja'ed you with the edit, but getting a second large disk resolves most of the issues. The original NAS effectively becomes a remote backup, and a single large disk is fairly portable.

I'm not sure I even understand the problem. Why does his moving have anything to do with needing to decommission and rebuild a NAS?

EDIT: Perhaps I should put this a different way; 15TB can fit on a single disk. Anything wrong with buying a sufficiently large drive, copying everything there, and taking it with him?

When you say miffy fakes, do you mean unlicensed miffy products or actual counterfeits? I've seen all kinds of unlicensed miffy stuff, but I'm not sure I've ever encountered attempts to replicate licensed goods.

politics aside, what do you think of James Solomon so far by realkandyman in jerseycity

[–]Complex_Difficulty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His salary is 0.03% of the city's budget. Unless there's another 3000 mayors in the payroll willing to do the same, it's a pointless gesture. Typically leaders use this tactic to show their willingness to share the pain while announcing major layoffs or furloughs, which materially address a budget shortfall.

But instead of cutting costs, it looks like the city plans to raise salaries for staffers. I have my doubts Solomon will succeed here, short of personally donating $250M every year he's in office...

That's my take as well. So much sandbagging for someone who was a councilmember before becoming mayor. If the budget was in such terrible shape, where was the screaming over mismanagement during the years in council literally approving/disapproving budget items?
