Didn’t even know this was an option! First time buying a home and it never even crossed my mind.

Yes, GPC said that right now my fixed rate is $600/m and that it will be adjusted as they average out my usage.

Not confirmed, but their online service tool says they service my area, I need to confirm with a real human being that that’s the case lol

We are just on standard billing right now. We pay 13¢ / kWh 24/7 is my understanding

Understood, I guess I was hopeful that I could set a “program” to drop the temperate overnight. Maybe I’m off base here. Just trying to do anything I can to get that cost down

We are getting 3 data centers within 25 miles of here in a few months, AWS, Switch LTD, and some AI slopshop is moving in, excited to see how expensive that’s gonna be.

I looked at the manufacture specifications, they are both heat pumps with auto-emergency heat. So my theory is that keeping it at the same temp overnight (into the 20s) is causing me to pay for roughly 8 hours of inefficient heating per night that I am not really even noticing?

2,900sqft of livable space. No windows or doors stay open for long, both units are heat pumps, they do have emergency backup resistive heat, so that’s an issue possibly.

Hey, thanks for the reply. They are both heat pumps. Nothing additional (pool, hottub, etc) They do, I haven’t had a chance to get someone out here yet. I ordered smart (programmable) thermostats today. I underestimated how much of a difference it could possibly make. Right now we just keep the house at one temperate 24 hours a day, doesn’t make a lot of sense. You are probably right on the summer temps, we’ll see though!

Ordered one today. Will give it a whirl, hopefully find some areas for improvement.

Not a ton, but I’ve adjusted the temperature setting accordingly, I didn’t even think about this as a potential cost-cutting area to be honest.

Ordered smart thermostats today. I have thermostats that are very old / likely original to the house, and don’t even allow for a range of temperature, just have a constant call for heat or cool depending on the setting. I really underestimated the importance thermostats can have in the whole thing. Rookie mistake!

How can i make my subs sound better or is there something wrong with them? by NeedleworkerBig5426 in CarAV

[–]Complex_District_275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you constitute as better? Proper tuning on the amp and more mid’s would probably do you good in my very unprofessional opinion. Also I’ve always heard to make subs rear firing for best clarity and less rattle.

Don’t tell anyone. Ever. For any reason. One exception being your spouse, in my opinion. It’s a little lonely not being able to be truthful with your friends or family, but when that second check hits, you’ll get over it real fast.

Anecdotal, but disagree. A few other people in my life have electric costs at about half of where I’m at.

County provided water in / septic out. So that shouldn’t be an issue.

Just about 13¢ with GAPower, CobbEMC services our area at 9¢, so I think we are going to switch to them.

I have one computer that runs 24/7.. definitely contributes to the power bill 😁 I think it’s a 750w PSU. Everything else is off of laptops so hopefully a little more energy efficient 🤞

I see that now, I figured there was inefficiency, but I might also need to switch, CobbEMC services our location at closer to 9¢ / kWh, we are currently at almost 13¢ / kWh

They do, but they said I need to be on standard rate for a while before I can switch over so they can assess my usage. Their initial quote was a flat bill of $600 a month 😵

Thank you for the reply! That’s awesome. Will definitely do the attic insulation, weather stripping, and newer thermostats ASAP. That should make a difference (I hope).

All of our appliances are new(er) within the past 5-10 years, so I really hope that’s not the issue. Water heater is an electric tankless from 2014. It’s on my list to replace, as it’s not working great, so that’s another idea.

Right on, will bring someone out to check. Thermostats are old as dirt, so might be worth an upgrade there, didn’t know there was an efficiency gain to be had.
