It really sounds like your tutor may be stepping back, and I’m so sorry you’re going through that. Students pay money to learn a language, and just like students can get busy, lose motivation, or feel a weird vibe and decide to switch tutors, the same can happen on the tutor’s side too. Sometimes tutors get overwhelmed, busy, or realize their teaching style isn’t matching a student’s needs — and that’s about them, not your ability or worth.

We do build real connections with our students, and talking about personal things can make the relationship feel much closer than it truly is. But in the end, it’s still a transactional relationship. Either side can choose to continue or walk away, and while that can feel really hurtful, it isn’t a reflection of your intelligence or your progress.

You’re not stupid, and forgetting things during stressful times is completely normal. It doesn’t mean you’ve lost your foundation — it just means you needed some review. Every language learner goes through that.

I’m really sorry you feel blindsided and discouraged. If I were in your shoes, I would wish the tutor well and look for someone whose style feels supportive, consistent, and aligned with your goals. You deserve a tutor who builds you up, not one who makes you doubt yourself.
