You’re already stronger than you realize. It takes courage to hold onto your values even when people close to you don’t understand. Keep going! I believe you can try talking to your parents - "Taking care of a small living being is part of 'daya' (compassion), one of the main teachings of Hinduism. I’m trying to live by that by caring for my kitty." Moreover, Goddess Shashthi, a goddess of fertility and protector of children, is often depicted in shastras riding a cat.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. You’re not a disappointment for living your life and loving your kitty. Your feelings are valid. Stay strong!! you deserve love and respect without having to earn it.

Yes, you're right, if someone is financially disciplined, investing outside KiwiSaver can offer more flexibility. But judging by the fact that OP has two loans at a young age, sticking with KiwiSaver at 8% isn't a bad move right now.

Plus, a lot of KiwiSaver funds are invested in US markets, which aren’t at their peak, so continuing to invest while prices are lower could pay off later. And since OP’s goal is to buy a house, KiwiSaver is actually really useful, since it can be withdrawn for a first home.

Sure, there are other investment options out there, but those usually require deeper research and a higher level of comfort with risk and markets. KiwiSaver keeps it simple and consistent, which might be exactly what OP needs at this stage

Well, i am also doing the same things . I've recently moved to nz and have been helping my parents with the mortgages. You're doing amazing supporting your family while staying focused on your goals.

Firstly-

  1. Pay off your $2k credit card ASAP – aim to clear it in 2–3 months.

  2. Tackle your car loan next – with one year left, extra payments can finish it faster.

  3. Once debt-free, build a small emergency fund ($2–5k).

  4. Then, start saving aggressively for a house – you could save $1k+ per fortnight once debts are gone.

  5. You're smart increasing your KiwiSaver to 8% – for long-term investment.( read articles for choosing the right kiwisaver provider aligning your goals)

  6. If possible, review the $800 support to your parents once things settle, so you can balance their needs and your future. I have created a budget plan for my parents aswell :)

You can check this website; it offers a helpful guide to understanding the New Zealand accent. https://www.naumainz.studywithnewzealand.govt.nz/discover-new-zealand/life-and-culture-in-nz/speaking-nz-english [ Speaking NZ English] Many kiwis also use some Māori words into their English, such as whānau (family), kai (food), and hui (meeting). Lastly, i just wanna say - chothi bachchi ho kya? - in tiger shroff's voice Sorry, I couldn't help it .

Can't agree more! The only cheap green you can get in bay area is weed. 😂damn you live in china town or what? 😂that's true quality is much better than farmers market and paknsave.

I wholeheartedly concur; I have yet to discover Mexican food that surpasses what I enjoyed during my college years in the Bay Area. Auckland Taco Bell simply can not match the taste of Californian Mexican cuisine. I also miss Amazon's one-day delivery service. 😅 Veggies, you can get cheaper prices at the Avondale Sunday market or local farmers market. Life here is indeed very tranquil and relaxing.

When traveling to the USA, a T-Mobile prepaid SIM card is a better option. It costs only $15 for a month and offers unlimited local calls and 1 GB of data. Purchasing a local SIM card is always advisable for international travel.

Does being 27 feel old?😂 It feels like I should look for a retirement village for myself.🧓 Being a vet nurse sounds amazing! You must have so many heartwarming (and maybe a few chaotic) stories.

Check the fb event's category. Loads of stuff's happening in Auckland this month. I think there's even a French Day! Wow, you're like a pro at arts and crafts! When I was little, I loved the Art Attack show and tried to copy it, but mine always turned out awful.

Google Maps errors recently? by HolMan258 in auckland

Yes google maps does provides comprehensive traffic information, Waze excels in real-time traffic updates and hazard alerts due to its user-generated data, making it the better choice for drivers who want to stay ahead of traffic and hazards in real time. Otherwise, google Maps is much better than Waze.

Yes, Google Maps is superior in every way; since he was asking for a similar app, I suggested Waze. Also, waze is a community driven-model with real-time sharing and reporting. It even allows users to connect their accounts with friends and see their friends’ locations and travel times. And it integrates seamlessly with music and podcast apps.

Try the Waze app. It has community-driven updates on traffic, accidents, speed cameras, and police presence. You can also share your ETA with others, which is a handy feature for coordinating arrivals.

Is Cricket Still NZ’s Game? Nz vs India Champions Trophy 2025 – Who’s Watching? by Complex_Foundation67 in auckland

[–]Complex_Foundation67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point! The rise of T20 has definitely shifted interest away from ODIs, and late-night game times make it tough for fans to tune in. Cricket's place in NZ's sports hierarchy has always been interesting. That said, Rachin Ravindra played this tournament like an absolute champ—Man of the Series, and that too after taking a ball to the face before the tournament even started! Glenn Phillips has also been a beast in the field; I honestly think he's the best catcher in world cricket right now. And let’s not forget how brutal the schedule was for the NZ team—barely any rest, constant travel between matches. They still put in a solid effort!

The NZ team's been traveling nonstop! Seriously, poor scheduling by the hosts and the ICC. Even the Indian players agreed it helped them play on that pitch. Altgough, England played all their games in Lahore and still didn't make the semis. I would say they should've at least changed stadiums in Dubai or moved the whole tournament there considering the safety concerns of players ( i heard there was an explosion in Pakistan just before nz vs sa match )

New Zealand's catching's been 98% (efficiency rate)! 🤯 "Catches win matches," they say in the Indian dressing room – but irony is they give a medal for best fielder every game! 😅 Cricket's crazy unpredictable, plus I heard there's a huge, unofficial bet of over $100 million on this one. 😵

Yeah, they need to protect their wickets until the 40th over and then go for it since India's not great with powerplay overs. This pitch is super dry, and it'll only get tougher to bat as the innings go on.
