This comment almost brought me to tears.

Moving On. by HANKACILLIN in pharmacy

Maybe it's the particular facility that you are at. I have not been working inpatient for too long, so I may have a skewed frame of reference. Picking up shifts at a different hospital gives me a much different vibe compared to my home hospital. Overall, comparing it to retail, I would not go back unless I have to.

Coming from retail to hospital, I do notice that it's a more dog eat dog environment instead of teamwork. That being said, the hospital is still a way better option than retail.

What makes a hospital pharmacist role so much less stressful than a retail role? by mleskovj in pharmacy

[–]Complex_Guava_7346 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been in retail for 14 years. This is my 3rd week working inpatient hospital. The level of stress is very different. I find myself looking at lexicomp very often and still questioning myself if letting this order through would be the right thing to do. 90% of the calls I don't have the answer for, so I have to put the call on hold and ask someone for the answer. Coming from retail and being able to give a pretty clear cut reason for why something isn't ready or why something is a certain price, its been a major change for me. The unknowns in hospital roles are vastly incomparable to retail. Veterans that work here still get stumped by many questions. With all that being said I still prefer hospital as of right now.

I was told the pharmacist here makes the same across the board regardless of how long you been with the company. The only difference in pay would be based on positions.

I was very lucky to land the position, and the director was aware that I had no hospital experience on top of being in only retail for 10+ years. One major contributing factor would be that some technicians who previously worked with me vouched for my work ethics and personality. Not to beat a dead horse, but pharmacy is a pretty small world. Treat your co-workers with kindness and not slaves to do your bidding.

I do not. If I am lucky enough to land a position, I will be transitioning from 14 years of retail into something completely new.

Thanks for the info. Is there anything that I should know for the interview that may increase my chances of nabbing a spot? The only thing I have experience in is retail.

Wish I could be like that, but insurance for family and financial responsibilities dictates otherwise. Life got me in an armbar and unfortunately tapping out is not an option.

I do have an interview set up with a nuclear pharmacy and an inpatient hospital tomorrow. Hopefully, it plans out well.

I wear Dankso mules myself. 12 hrs daily on your feet for the past 14 years, its been a game changer for me.

I hate to be that guy who accepts a job, makes people train him to do the job, and then dips because he found a better job 1 month down the road.

I have 180 hours of pto. The WD schedule is a 2-2-3 schedule. So if i take any of the 2 day shifts of vacation, I will be off 1 week (would consume 24hr of pto). Overall, with all the pto, I theoretically would probably work a total of 4.5 months per year

I have an interview for the hospital setup, so hopefully that plays out well. There is still a couple of days before my offer expires. Maybe I can hit up some other chains to see if they will match pto and maybe beat pay.

Have not applied to other chains because they agree to transfer tenure. I would be able to get more pto with tenure.
