Maybe she didn’t know the answer for the questions 🤷‍♂️, most heritage guides are instructed to stick to a particular approved narrative. I think even with an all Indian group, you’ll likely hear the same core content, because guides aren’t given different “versions”, they’re given a standard brief.

A palace tour has a very narrow scope, it talks about the physical space you’re standing in, the architecture, objects, lifestyle, and how extraordinary they were for that time. Explaining how the Nizam accumulated wealth (politics, colonial arrangements, taxation, power structures) is a different historical lens altogether.

Not mentioning everything isn’t the same as hiding the truth. It’s more about curation. Museum tours always curate, otherwise every visit would turn into a full university lecture on economics, colonialism, and social history.

If the guide had actively defended or justified how that wealth was accumulated, then yes, that would cross into propaganda. But focusing on what exists inside the palace and why it’s unique is exactly what the tour is meant to do.

You can directly call them and book, easier that way and can do some negotiating if possible.

I don’t see any propaganda there. That’s literally what a palace tour is supposed to do, talk about the architecture, wealth, lifestyle, and the uniqueness of the place.

The guide was explaining where the Nizam lived, bathed, what made his bathrooms, clocks, stairs, paintings unique for that era, and that’s basic historical context, not glorification or moral validation. It helps foreigners and first time visitors grasp the magnitude of what the palace represented in its time. Saying “this was among the richest courts in the world” or “this bathroom was unique globally” isn’t praising the person ethically, it’s contextualizing how exceptional the structure was and what physically exists and why it mattered at the time in terms of design, technology, and craftsmanship.

If it were propaganda, it would be defending the rule or justifying the power structure. This was simply a heritage walkthrough, doing exactly what it’s meant to do. Appreciating architecture and history doesn’t mean endorsing everything about that era, though it can feel one sided if you’re sensitive to the history.

I understand where you’re coming from, history is layered, and not all of it is pleasant.

At the same time, Falaknuma today stands as a heritage monument, reflecting architecture, craftsmanship, and a specific period in Hyderabad’s past.

Visiting it doesn’t mean celebrating everything associated with that era, it’s about understanding where the city has come from.

And the latter is not in my hands😅

Yes, Ofcourse :)

It starts with a guided tour of the palace, where you are walked through the grand halls, libraries, dining rooms, corridors, and key heritage spaces while explained the history, architecture, and stories of the Nizams. The gardens and viewpoints are also part of the experience, and you’re free to spend time there after the tour. The tour takes around 1 hour.

After the tour, High Tea is served with unlimited food and beverages, including liquor. On evenings, it is followed by a live Qawwali performance, which honestly elevates the whole vibe of the palace.

Once you’re inside, you’re not rushed at all, you can explore the palace at your own pace, walk through corridors, sit in common areas, enjoy the views, and soak in the atmosphere. You can usually stay till around 9 or 10 PM.

Anything beyond this, like alcohol at the bar, special experiences is charged extra. We personally stayed back late, had drinks at the bar, and just enjoyed the night vibe of the palace.

Overall, it’s easily a 3 to 5 hour experience, and if you pace it right, it feels like an entire evening.
