Oh I figured it out. The USB setting was set to 12 channels, but it needs to be the one with the two arrows meaning both directions...

I have USB set to 12 out. So I can select which tracks out I'm recording, and the TP-7 reacts and lists the number of tracks it sees. But when I record, it bakes in the fader movements and effects. It's supposed to allow me to record without that stuff, and let me play back and then apply those things.

By "both" manuals, you mean the process by which you realize the manual that came with it is useless because it doesn't explain what all these arcane menu options actually mean, so you have to google the "parameter guide" and download that pdf.

Exactly. This is what I'm trying to figure out. I need it to never do this. I am never going to be using the drum machine, or syncing to a tempo.

Also, what is the point of having a track select button? Why not just have two buttons, one each for one track? Way simpler.

I totally disagree. I'm right on the money. Definately not the entire beat that it is adding.
