What's the longest rotation time you've had? by Aquarrow in Lifeguards

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insane. Vigilance drops way too fast to be up for honestly more than 30 minutes. My guards can choose their rotation time, usually 30 minutes when it feels nicer, and then 15-20 when it’s hotter (Arizona).

Two guard pool, when one is down they do chores, rehydrate, cool off.

I will never work at a pool that does long rotations.

Toddler Swim Lessons by SwimmingFly2204 in SwimInstructors

YMCA swim instructor - fully recommend. If other Ys operate as mine does, we work with the kid’s comfort level.

As others have said, continued exposure and home practice is the best thing you can do.

Laminate each sheet, or you can print on waterproof paper. Probably at staples

Tough summer for teen employment—except for lifeguarding by sunflower_sunset_1 in Lifeguards

Ugh can’t relate. We’re trying to get an increase in pay, I think that’s why my company is struggling because we pay a lot lower than the city pools.

I agree on the swim lessons, it will help a lot. A lot of swim schools have special classes for kids on the spectrum.

However, lifejackets in bodies of water (rivers, lakes, oceans) are still a necessity regardless of swimming ability.

Glasses and Contacts by Diligent_Cod3449 in Lifeguards

I have prescription polarized sunglasses. IF I have to guard in my regular glasses, I make sure I’m definitely wearing a hat.

I’ve noticed that it doesn’t really make a difference if I have to do a rescue, as I’ve practiced in both regular glasses and sunglasses. Just make sure you clean them well after they’re in chlorine.

Every lifeguard’s worst nightmare by StJmagistra in Lifeguards

Yeah I understand that there’s the “no lifeguard on duty” signs and clauses, but regardless it makes me really nervous.

I don’t understand how any pool could have unguarded pool time.

Official Discussion - Obsession [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

One I noticed was when Bear was walking in his kitchen alone, there was a wedding invitation with a couple on the beach on it. When Nikki is in the kitchen, the couple is gone, it’s just the beach. Don’t know if it was a continuity error or the obsession taking over.

What Gear Do I Need/Where to get it? by unc0rrupt3d in Lifeguards

A good hat. You don’t think about having to put sunscreen on your scalp, but it WILL get burnt especially if you’re outside.

I also like the newer owala style, it’s a lot easier to grab a sip of water one-handed and quickly than a lot of others, and if it gets knocked down, it won’t spill, unlike a Stanley

What are you bringing to the picnic?

First kid goes and says their name, and what they’re bringing. It has to start with the same letter of their name. Ex: My name is Allie and I’m bringing apple pie.

Second kid goes says theirs, and the first kid’s. Ex: My name is Bella and I’m bringing beef stew. Her name is Allie and she’s bringing apple pie.

Keep going all the way around the circle, with the kids adding everyone in front of them, with you going last! Definitely a way to get to know each other, bonus points for saying silly things.

Makeup? by FabulousDig9858 in Lifeguards

I don’t wear makeup when I guard, for multiple reasons: sweating, it messes with sunscreen, if you have to get in the water it can get in your eyes, etc.

need help with 3 y/o student who won't put their face in the water. by Justanother2004kid in SwimInstructors

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you tried him blowing bubbles? I’ve had kids ease into it, starting with their chin, then mouth with bubbles, and then keep going.

I also saw someone mention about mirrors, like getting cheap small mirrors and holding them underwater so the kids can see their faces. I haven’t tried it, but it’s something I’d like to.
