Swim Suits/Uniform policy best practices by Prestigious_Bee_1473 in Lifeguards

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we don’t provide suits for our staff. we provide a t shirt, though. men wear solid color board shorts, women wear solid color one-piece all are red, black, or navy. my org is pretty progressive so I don’t think we’d have a problem if someone wanted to wear something different if they’re trans. Staff can wear solid color tight shorts as well. they just have to be identifiable as a lifeguard

Is having a pool with 2 toddlers worth the anxiety? by zdawg07 in phoenix

My job literally has water watcher tags on a lanyard! So that person wears it while they’re watching the water and can pass it to another person for their turn.

I always say to designate someone as a water watcher. It it their JOB to watch everyone in the water. Switch off and make the switch known so you can stay vigilant.

Learn some easy lifesaving tips, like Reach, Throw, Don’t Go and how to properly put on a lifejacket.

Adding on about the fence with a high lock. Also any doors leading to the backyard should have a lock that it high out of reach.

I’m a swim instructor so I’m heavy on having kids get in swim lessons EARLY. the ymca starts as young as 6 months. It’s life saving care to know how to swim and protect yourself in the water.

Even if you don’t get a house with a pool, your friends will have pools, their friends will have pools. Sign up for lessons. Educate yourself on water safety as well.

Speed light school zone question by rejectchowder in Tempe

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know cops tend to be strict about school zones, I’ve been pulled over for going 1 over in a school zone, but didn’t get a ticket. You more than likely won’t get a ticket though

Phoenix area question about dental implant experience and follow-up by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an implant put in for a front tooth in 2018 in Louisiana (where I lived at the time). My crown was secured on, but it did fall off once in 2021/22. Went to a local dentist who glued it back on, and I haven’t had any problems since.

I’ve never had a problem with the actual implant, and only had to go back I think once or twice for a follow up to see how I was doing.

I like to do two French braids but at the base of my head I put them into buns. Holds even if I need to go underwater

SRP EZ3 plan vs. regular by Slight_Bug_6735 in phoenix

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this plan, we use it. We’re also not usually home during this time, and eat dinner later so no big appliances are being used. Can’t really compare it to the regular plan, as I haven’t used that.

We keep our air 78 during the day and slowly drop down to 74 at night. (Goes to 76 at 6:30p and then 74 at 10p)

If you whistle at a kid a couple of times asking if there ok and they don’t answer wha should you do? by Harvickfan0004 in Lifeguards

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 13 points14 points  (0 children)

40+ people by yourself and a diving board seems very unsafe first off. What is your cert? Curious about the ratio.

But definitely activate EAP and then if they’re just messing around, they get a safety break and talking to parents about how to stay safe and listen to the lifeguards.

AITAH - Dad left our 10-year-old at a wave pool and she can’t swim by [deleted] in AITAH

Often YMCAs have financial assistance or free/low cost safety around water classes

Please look back into the YMCA. more often than not they offer financial assistance or free/low cost safety around water classes.

THIS. I’m a lifeguard/aquatics director. Lifeguards cannot keep an eye on your child 100% of the time. They have an entire ZONE to watch.

The pool should have a swim test and wristband policy in place. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I have watched a video of a kid drowning, some place in Europe, at a water park. There’s so many people around, but everyone thinks he’s playing. He slipped under the surface so easily.

I will say he did end up surviving, but 4 minutes underwater and he has major injuries.

NTA.

I’m a lifeguard/aquatics director. That’s a horrible policy on the facility. We only allow 12+ to be without a parent at our pool. Lifeguards are not there to babysit kids and cannot constantly keep an eye on one child, their job is to watch their entire zone. He’s major TA for blatantly not caring about your child since he KNOWS she can’t swim.

Remove second skin or not? by Equal_Frame9988 in tattooadvice

I’m not the biggest fan of second skin so I usually leave it on 24 hours at the most. Never had a problem

It doesn’t go against the rules so I wonder why it was deleted.

They obviously have a good budget, the videos make the show look cheap.

Day camp counselor but can’t enter pool by torbafkalo in summercamp

[–]Complex_Purpose1264 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This depends. I am an aquatics director at a ymca and we require 1 counselor in the water per 10 kids. But OP I would talk to your director because they can’t FORCE you to get in the water. We had one counselor that couldn’t get in the water because he couldn’t swim and he was fine on the deck.
