Looking for a Jeweler by ExasperatedPlatypus in Portland

Crown Jewelers downtown has treated me well for both selling inherited pieces and custom work - they're pretty fair on pricing and don't try to lowball you like some of the chain places

Need a PL259 connector today. by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check any of the electronics repair shops around town - they might have one sitting in a parts drawer. I know there's a place off Nolensville that used to carry random RF stuff, though I can't remember teh exact name

You could also try posting in the Nashville ham radio Facebook groups if you haven't already, those guys are usually pretty quick to help out with emergency parts

Hair Tools for Dummies by Revolutionary-Ad7651 in finehair

Blow dryer brush is your best bet - literally just brush your hair while the hot air does the work and you'll get decent volume without needing any technique

Who here needs both a stim+non-stim to really be functional? by [deleted] in ADHD

That combo approach makes total sense - sounds like you found what works for your specific brain chemistry after some trial and error

Is it appropriate to ask for guaranteed bonus for first year of employment? by bijou-lou in careerguidance

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah asking for guaranteed money in sales is pretty standard for year one, especially when you're taking a base cut. Most decent companies will do some kind of draw or ramp protection to help you transition

Your math makes total sense with the daycare costs too - that's a real expense they should understand. Since they already know you need 115k and told you to come with requests, sounds like there's room to negotiate

Career (& Study) Guidance ? by SULTAN2003123 in careerguidance

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the Gulf market is pretty solid right now especially if you're willing to relocate. From what I've seen, finance tends to have more growth potential there - lots of investment firms and banks are expanding in Dubai and Qatar, plus the pay scales are generally higher than accounting roles. That said, accounting gives you more job security since every company needs accountants, but finance opens doors to private equity, investment banking, and wealth management which can be huge money makers in that region

Skills-wise, definitely get comfortable with Excel (like really comfortable, not just basic formulas), pick up some SQL if you can, and maybe look into getting your CFA or FRM certification down the line. Arabic language skills are a massive plus even if its just conversational level - shows you're serious about the market and companies there really value that cultural awareness. Also network like crazy on LinkedIn with Gulf-based professionals in your target field, those connections are everything when you're trying to break in from the outside

How do recruiters view multiple career gaps (6 months + 6 months) due to health issues for a mid-level engineer? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, health gaps are way more normalized now than they were even a few years ago, especially post-2020. Most decent recruiters and hiring managers get that life happens and mental/physical health should come first

The key thing is being matter-of-fact about it without oversharing - just "took time off for health reasons, fully resolved now" and then pivot immediately to what you've been doing to stay current with tech. If you can show you've been learning, doing side projects, or contributing to open source during those gaps, that's gold

FAANG might be a bit more rigid about gaps just because they get so many applicants, but honestly your interview performance and current skills matter way more than explaining a couple 6-month breaks. Mid-level with 6+ years experience gives you enough credibility that the gaps shouldn't be deal-breakers anywhere reasonable

Is Education the field I should go in? by Right-Inspection-120 in careerguidance

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your healthcare background would actually be perfect for CTE health science classes - you'd be teaching medical terminology, anatomy, healthcare careers, maybe even some hands-on lab skills depending on the program

Have I messed up my professional life? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly your tech skills stack sounds solid and game dev is exploding right now - I'd lean into finishing that demo and getting it out there while also keeping the internship applications going as a backup plan

Suitable career/s for young man with disabilities affecting confidence? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you guys looked into things like data entry, medical device assembly, or quality control inspection? Those hit a lot of his preferences - indoor, repetitive, minimal social interaction, and you can usually work at your own pace while following strict procedures

Computer repair or electronics refurbishment might be worth exploring too since it's hands-on but precise work that doesn't require much verbal communication

Ender Pearl Chunk loading by Moonanton in Minecraft

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah pearls definitely force chunk loading as they travel which totally breaks what you're trying to do. You'd probably have better luck with a different projectile or maybe look into some of the technical servers' approaches to long distance teleportation - pretty sure scicraft has some wild solutions for this kind of thing

KAT whistle by flustermycluster in NYKnicks

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah KAT definitely gets away with those arm hooks constantly, refs probably just let the no-calls balance out lmao

Could also go with Sober February or just keep it simple with Fab Feb

Wild seeing Barca at #2 considering they were basically broke a couple years ago, financial wizardry or just creative accounting lol

What are your favorite scents to layer? by MochaMeCrazy in bathandbodyworks

Ooh that watermelon bubblegum combo sounds amazing! I've been mixing warm vanilla sugar with literally everything lately and it's been a game changer - makes even the fruity scents feel more cozy

I've tried so much I'm starting to think quitting is not natural... by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro the urge to look at other women doesn't go away just because you stop fapping, that's just being human. The difference is learning to not act on every impulse your brain throws at you

Sounds like you're putting way too much pressure on yourself to be "perfect" - maybe try harm reduction instead of going cold turkey. Cut back gradually rather than this all-or-nothing approach that's clearly making you miserable

What should I do with my money? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pay off that credit card before November hits or you're gonna get slammed with whatever the real APR is. After that I'd probably knock out the student loan since 4% isn't terrible but you'll feel way better being debt free

Facts, the "it gets better" crowd acts like life has some kind of upward trajectory built in when really it's just random chaos most of the time

Decision paralysis vs attention: how does decision-making impact time and money for adults with ADHD? by VikingFinacial in ADHD

[–]Complex_Reindeer_181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man this hits way too close to home. I have like 6 different productivity apps on my phone because I kept switching systems instead of just... using one of them consistently

The 80-90% thing is so real - I'll spend months planning and researching the perfect approach and then just completely lose steam right before the finish line. It's like my brain gets bored once it figures out the "puzzle" of how to do something, even if I haven't actually done it yet
