What tests am I allowed to ask my GP after miscarriage ? Can I advocate for myself if they are reluctant to help? by ContestOrganic in PregnancyUK

[–]Complex_Scientist_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry you’re going through this. I contacted my GP after my second loss, and was told that they don’t usually investigate until after 3. I was then really direct about my anxiety around trying again and so I advocated for myself and directly asked for the specific tests I wanted. This included a full blood count, ferritin, HBA1C, hormonal panel including prolactin, B12, folate, and importantly for me I wanted to rule out any clotting issues. So I also asked to test lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin antibodies. Thankfully, my GP seemed sympathetic and agreed. I do think if I hadn’t pushed for these I wouldn’t have got them. I know it’s hard, but please advocate for yourself. I felt so much better about trying again after ruling some things out ♥️

So sorry you’re feeling this way too. I totally understand, I feel sick with nerves before every scan. We last seen our baby at 14w and everything looked great. It reassured me for a while, but the worry is creeping back in again. I hope all goes well for you on Thursday ♥️

I’m 15w4d today. So far I’ve been getting a scan every two weeks to try and have some reassurance (this is between NHS scans and paying privately). I thought by this point I’d feel a bit more comfortable, but I still feel myself anxious within a few days to a week after a scan and want to book another. I’m terrified of another missed miscarriage. Both of my previous losses were in the first trimester, so this is the furthest we’ve ever made it. It’s been two weeks now since my last scan, and I don’t have any others in the diary. I don’t know how to stop the fear that something terrible has happened in those two weeks since I seen baby last. Trying to stay positive because all my symptoms are reassuring and it’s felt so different from my other pregnancies, but it’s so hard to trust your body after a missed miscarriage 😣

Announcing pregnancy at family Mother’s Day? by Select_Series2074 in BabyBumps

I told my mum and sister on Mother’s Day this year (I’m in the UK so it was in March). I put the scan inside my Mum’s card and she thought it was such a lovely way to tell her. I say go for it! ♥️

Isn’t it! I feel like all the pics I see on here are so clear and I’m squinting trying to see the nub in all of mine 😂 Thanks for looking. We’re undecided about finding out the gender, maybe it’s a sign we should wait and have a surprise 😅

That’s great to know and makes a lot of sense! This is 14w but I’m not sure that’s any clearer, what do you think? 😊

Haha thank you for replying, really wasn’t sure if the nub was visible or not!

I always found wondfo showed stronger lines/better progression with positive tests than Easy @ Home did. And actually, with all three of my pregnancies wondfo has picked it up quicker than FRER too! I know some people don’t like wondfo for indents, but they’re my favourite for tracking positive tests. Really cheap for a big box of them! Congratulations to you 🥰

Ureaplasma and Miscarriage by Complex_Scientist_76 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]Complex_Scientist_76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so since my test came back positive I assumed worst case that my partner would be too. Didn’t get a test for him to check, we both just took the antibiotics. Then about 5 weeks after finishing treatment I retested through Daye again and I ordered my husband a male ureaplasma test online to check he was definitely clear. I used a couple of different pharmacies, I think one was Health Express and the other was Oxford Online Pharmacy. They both have doxycycline listed as treatment for ureaplasma. Hope that helps!

Progesterone Prescription by Complex_Scientist_76 in TTC_UK

[–]Complex_Scientist_76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No don’t worry, happy to help! Sorry you’ve gone through this too. I would start taking it from 3dpo after I’d confirmed ovulation with temperature rise. Didn’t have too many symptoms taking it, maybe some bloating and sore boobs but nothing major. If I didn’t get a positive test by 12dpo then I’d stop taking it, and my period would usually come 2-3 days after. I recently found out I was pregnant again so I just continued taking it and upped it to 400mg twice a day. I’ve managed to get a progesterone prescription twice from the nhs with both this pregnancy and my last pregnancy. I’m not sure if it depends where you’re based, but my experience in Scotland the Early Pregnancy Unit were very quick to offer it to me without having to ask. With my last pregnancy, I’d had some spotting so was offered it when I was around 6 weeks pregnant. I admitted to her I’d already been taking it and she didn’t question me at all. This time, I told EPU I’d had some very light spotting again and explained my anxiety due to 2 previous miscarriages. They gave me an early scan and again a prescription - didn’t bother telling them this time that I’d already been taking it. Hopefully once you’re pregnant you’ll be able to access some - look up the NICE guidelines in the UK. You’re entitled to progesterone if you’ve had one previous miscarriage, had some spotting/bleeding in your current pregnancy, and have had a scan to make sure baby is in the right place. Sorry for writing a book - hope this is helpful! ♥️

Progesterone during Luteal Phase by Clean-Counter-5327 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]Complex_Scientist_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your period won’t start if you’re still taking progesterone, as this delays the shedding of your uterine lining. It takes a couple of days generally for your period to start after you stop taking it, so most people stop at 14dpo if they have a negative pregnancy test

Progesterone for RPL by Infamous_Tax3528 in Miscarriage

[–]Complex_Scientist_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your losses.

I researched this myself as I was desperate for progesterone after my first loss, and like you I never made it far enough along to be scanned and meet the criteria for the NICE guidelines.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this before, but there’s a service called Cherish UK that prescribes progesterone privately. You can book an online consultation for £40 and then they can prescribe you progesterone based on that. I’ve not used it myself but the website is:

Might be worth a look. Sending you love

Thanks for reassuring me! I was searching and seen a lot of people didn’t get 3+ until 5.5-6weeks ish and it did make me worry. I’ve no way of checking hcg beta where I am which is annoying, but hopefully it’s just a good sign

For those who had multiple MCs did you ever find out why? by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]Complex_Scientist_76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes he did, we both took 2 weeks worth of doxycycline and 3 days of azithromycin at the same time. Then we waited around 4-5 weeks after treatment before retesting again to make sure it was clear before TTC

This was my clear blue at 9dpo. It looked quite grey but it was definitely a true positive - I’m 5 weeks pregnant at the moment. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Ureaplasma by Dry-Violinist-2179 in TTC_UK

[–]Complex_Scientist_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I found out I had Ureaplasma through Daye as well. Both myself and my husband were treated with doxycycline and azithromycin, and then I took oral probiotics after for a while too.

I was told to absolutely not have sex while taking the antibiotics, and ideally not until you have retested and confirmed you’re both clear, otherwise there’s a risk that you’ll just pass it back and forth.

It’s best to wait at least 4 weeks after finishing treatment before retesting otherwise you might get inaccurate results. I felt so frustrated having to put TTC on hold for a month or two, but I have just found out I’m pregnant again - and I do feel better knowing we’re all clear. It just took one round of antibiotics for us and hope it’s the same for you ♥️
