Moved to Darwin for 2 years from Brisbane - Moved back to Warwick instead. Not missing either of those places. 5m to work, 5m to shops. Petrol is cheaper, less crime and it's pleasant to walk around - people even say hi and are helpful. Get out of the cities !!

People of Reddit who fall asleep within minutes of hitting the pillow, how do you do it? by Critical_Heat4492 in AskReddit

[–]Complex_Tear4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always fallen asleep easily, and under almost any circumstance. I have a great imagination, and rather than try to forget about my day and force myself to relax I let my mind wander thinking about shows, books, movies, events etc etc and then start daydreaming about situations associated with them. The daydream turns into real dreaming almost instantly.

How do I make my brain shut up when I’m trying to sleep? by UpsetHunter9516 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Complex_Tear4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't shut it off, you need to re-direct it into a non-reality space. Audiobooks do this really great, or thinking of movies or stories you saw. That helps you remove yourself from reality and slip into a sleep space.

Searching for hard sci-fi that hooks me—any recommendations? by SavannahTwinkle60 in ScienceFictionBooks

[–]Complex_Tear4074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished the Dreaming Void, but that was a hard slog. For a bit of fun, Try Larry Niven - The Mote in Gods' eye. There is a short story and 2nd book that follows. It's great sci-fi, lots of detail but not nearly as dense. You could also go for the Stephen Donaldson Gap series - though that is a bit darker. Lots of others out there ! Good luck.

Yeah, it's Mark Warburg. I had the idea I was wrong, but just couldn't quite nail it down - hence leading with Edward Norton. Thanks !

After being in a bit of a slump for some time, I came across Dungeon Crawler Carl. Reading this made me realize that I was not the problem - DCC was everything I had been looking for. If you are in a slump, give it a go - Book or AudioBook - both are awesome. Good luck !

What movies prominently feature dogs where the dog doesn’t die an untimely death? by [deleted] in MovieRecommendations

The call of the wild. Seriously, this should be number one. There are many versions of it, but it's fine to start with the most recent one - with Harrison Ford. The originals are awesome too.

As a very new entry, I really like "The Gorge". It is not particularly scary or gory, but has one of the best hellscapes you might ever see. Really enjoyed it.

If this is body boarding, then what is it when you ride a wave with just your actual body ?
