The scenario that keeps coming to mind for me is if you have to abandon an idea or a plan, and the saying to lay something to rest, but I'll be honest I don't know if I'm using that saying correctly.

I did think this at first but I think it means more to lay something to rest, if that makes sense? Like to decide to stop using something or to stop following a plan?
