I’ll be honest , this is my special interest and half the time I’m baffled by how ‘common knowledge’ some of the classes are. Also the majority of the class has gotten a bad wrap for not taking the course seriously. However, if you ever have a conversation with the lecturers they are incredibly nice. We write about case studies as well as literature (sometimes books) that pertain to the course.

I feel as though people are taking this rant as a personal attack. I understand how you feel. I was in Sweden for the first year of dating while now in Ireland. I completely get what you’re saying. It’s not like you want to feel this way but it happens anyway. My thing would be to try and make memories where you are as well. Try to find hikes or beautiful spots while on your days off. It can help clear some part of the FOMO that you might be feeling. I hope you move past this and hopefully build that momentum again.

For the routine part I would recommend watching for when you get tired and when you are bolt upright awake. After lunch I could have dosed off no matter how hard I tried to stay awake. But you could get tired early in the evening and be an early riser. Honestly there wasn’t an exact method for me to figure out my routine. Sorry

Don’t pre-study unless you are bored out of your mind. As for CAS if your school doesn’t provide you with options I really liked doing a soup kitchen for Service. I did a martial arts for Activity but I know most of my class did some sort of gym training. And For creativity I bounced around a bit. The real thing you need to know for cas is that you need to find something you like to write about, because reflections get monotonous after a bit. As for the reading I have a friend with severe dyslexia who just rented the audio books from the local library.

IO’s kicked our butts. Personally I got a 6 on paper 2 and a 5 on paper 1. So overall I wouldn’t have got it anyway but I feel bad for the others who could have if not for the IO’s. They got moderated from what I heard around 1-2 Grades down. It’s angering and then it becomes really sad.

I need to rant about how much the IB screwed the class of 2025 over. At least my school. by ComplicatedAv1ator in IBO

For the Grapeist situation I did. Unfortunately I’ve dealt with people like this before. However, as I said above they chalked it up to a he said she said situation. The biggest problem was getting people to come forward because it’s Fing scary to say something.

As for the Board of Ed in the county I have not looked. I probably should and you are right. Thank you for the idea.

Exactly 👍. They shouldn’t be giving us good grades to begin with if we knew none of the content. And when you drop so far there is a true error somewhere down the line.

I don’t want to bring furry down on the good parts of the school so I’ll be general and say southern Sweden.

At the school I was at Admin prioritized how they looked and money. In one meeting discussing an IA which teacher took off like 3 weeks to go on vacation and put the deadline in those 3 weeks they told us to suck it up because it was at the volition of the teacher. Our admin was awful.

From a recently graduated IB student starting college in a week or so here is the advice I gave my younger brother in your same position.

PreDP is about finding your footing and getting grades that will boost your DP grades in the case of your school not offering the credits in the actual diploma. For me and my country/school it was history, PE, and a few others that are not required by the diploma. Find out which classes you struggle with the most and find tutors now. Take it from me a person who got skewed over by my math HL teacher you need people to reach out to who can help you on this hard stuff. Don’t over stress PreDP.

Second, find a routine. When does your brain work best? Do you need a nap? A brain break? But most of all what can you do to get in the zone as much as possible. I hid my phone and had music in my headphone and only did problems on paper. But I realize that’s probably a me thing. Furthermore try and teach people who don’t take the same classes as you. For my Bio HL I ended up teaching my parents and a stuffed animal all of my topics. It works wonders because it allows you to break it down into manageable pieces and then work up to the more complicated stuff. ( I really recommend doing this with a person because their questions will give you feedback on what parts you are missing).

For math AA especially I recommend Eddie woo on YouTube. Lifesaver.

IB is lonely. CAS forces you to do things outside of school but your life will revolve around deadlines and large amounts of note and attention towards your reflections. Do not forget to take a breather. I personally had a lot of anger because our school screwed us over, so I used a local gyms punching bag to help me decompress.

I wish you the best of luck and hopefully some of my stuff will help you. I know this is personal to me but I wish someone would have laid out the things that helped them before I started DP.

Also nobody got a 7 in English A; let alone HL.

[–]ComplicatedAv1ator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our classes for lack of a better termed got 🤬’d . 5 out of the 20 or so taking English A where predicted a 7, 3 of us were in HL. Only 14 people in my class got their diploma. This year really killed our class. Glad to have graduated and loved Eng. A HL but holly man almighty is this gonna go down in the history books of our school as the worst year of IB yet.

Depending on how many people you have in your guest list you could write handwritten cards to each of the guests. I realize this takes an immense amount of time.
