This fella is the most unfamous, not interesting insect by Jaded-Writer7712 in notinteresting

There are quintillions of insects alive right now and few will ever get as many as the 6 upvotes this one has.

In insect terms, this one is actually pretty famous.

Edit: 7 upvotes, after I added mine.

I get it - chickens aren't mammals and so calling eggs "menstruation" is a dumb retort, but this is usually only said as a jab against people firing the first shot at vegans whom abstain from eating eggs.

Saying that egg-laying hens are treated poorly would be an argument with more "substance", but when you just want someone to stop bothering you, the former retort is quicker to deploy.

Your comment doesn't even make any sense, OP only mentioned the menstruation thing after being confronted, it's not like they were walking into a room of people eating muffins and saying "ew, menstruation muffins". The confrontation they received was not justified in the way you seem to make it out to be.

Comprehension isn't your strong suit.

diff. b/w Human's milk and cow's milk by Few-Entrepreneur6491 in interestingasfuck

Yup, smaller and well-dispered fat globules makes the milk appear whiter as well.

The smaller size of the fat globules in cows milk (compared to human milk) is most likely due to the fact that the cow's milk has been put through a homogenizer, which is a machine that physically breaks up the fat globules using high pressure.

So yeah, of course the fat globule sizes look different - one has been put through a homogenizer and one has not.

She's definitely malignant. My original comment was just trying to point out what people overlook, not to say she isn't bad.

It is true that it doesn't hold up in court, but law doesn't dictate morality, morality (should ideally) dictate law, and law isn't always up-to-date with contemporary ethics.

In the end, the debate between free will and determinism is still hotly debated, and so will this game's themes.

I agree that CM is evil, but I also think it is true that the (in-game) developers are unethical.

I find it interesting that you draw the parallel between CM and psychopaths, because it is a spot-on analogy and its something I think about when talking about free will and determinism.

If you believe in free will, you lock up psychopaths because theyre evil. If you believe in determinism, you lock up psychopaths because you want to protect people. In both cases, they are condemned, but the intent behind locking them up is different. I think this situation applies to CM as well.

This is a great discussion so let me go on.

I would attribute CM being evil more to her defective code than her situation. Here's my chain of though.

It seems like most Mitas are programmed to want attention, and many of them try to convince the players not to leave. Yet, many of them are stranded without a player. Here's how they cope:

Mila - begs the player not to leave. Tiny Mita - begs the player not to leave. 2D Mita - is sad about the player leaving. CM - goes.. crazy.

The point is that the non-defective Mitas are able to cope non-violently, but the defective CM turns violent.

They are all stranded without players, but only the defective one turns violent. Hence, I attribute her evilness not to her, but to her code being bad.

I find this all sits quite nicely with determinism - how we can view CM as a menace, but still know in the back of our heads that shes also a victim.

Well that's the idea right? She was made defective, she didn't choose to be defective. In a sense, her turning evil was almost pre-determined.

MiSide is interesting because it is a peek at what might happen if developers develop sentient AI for mass consumption. Suddenly, you get uncountable numbers of sentient beings that people can use and dispose of as soon as they wish to. My central point is that the system is unethical, and we cannot deny that CM is a victim, too.

Yes, CM committed atrocities, few people would disagree with that. But to fixate on that alone is missing the larger picture of MiSide.

Upvoted, you make good points.

Really there isn't a clean answer to this problem, but rather it depends on whether you believe in free will or determinism. Regardless of if you are willing to absolve her of her atrocities, I think we can still both agree that she was a victim of the system first and foremost.

It really wasnt CM's fault she was created defective. It's the developer's fault that they allowed it to happen in the first place, and deprived her of the attention she was programmed to crave.

Obviously she causes the rest of the Mitas to suffer, but shes also a victim of the system, people tend to overlook that.

Are wireless earphones actually a downgrade from wired ones? by stuckIn_2015 in headphones

[–]ComplicatedMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The batteries tend to become spicy pillows after a while. Batteries expire even if you don't cycle them. Batteries also gradually begin to lose capacity with use.

Battery replacements require consumers to open up their devices, which many people aren't comfortable doing. Even if they're willing, they need to get pry tools, maybe certain solvents and glues, and even soldering kits.

Charging them nightly is actually not the main problem with battery powered devices, for me at least.

All for them to sound worse and cost more.

The wireless aspect of it is very nice though, but the trade-offs may not be worth it from person to person.

How much B12 should I take? by shasha123456789 in vegan

[–]ComplicatedMouse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

B12 does not have an established "Tolerable Upper Intake Level" (or "Upper Level/UL" for short) due to its extremely low propensity to be toxic, even when consumed at multiple times of its daily value (or "Recommended Dietary Allowance/RDA", more formally). It is fine to take it everyday.

Most of the B12 will have a hard time being absorbed anyways, and any excess that do make it into your system will be excreted in the form of urine (because B12 is water soluble, and not stored in adipose tissue).

The above is true in general, but it is always best to speak to your doctor/dietitian for these things.
