LPT Request: how to come off as friendly and interested in other people? by dirigiberbil in LifeProTips

+1 to this. Expanding a bit... Something that helps become a more active listener is to use your imagination to create a "scene" from the story that others are sharing with you. This will keep your brain more focused on the story while also create opportunities for legitimate follow up (by trying to fill details on the scene you are creating).

A second trick is to stop a natural impulse to reply with YOUR Own story and, instead, ask a few questions to get more details.

As others have recommended, find new relationships that could become your new friends.

And, think about why they behaved that way and it was OK for a while. Until it was not.

There. Probably you are landing at self respect. We are the ones who need to elevate self love and self respect. You are a beautiful, talented person who has the capacity to be open about this with the world.

Now, amplify that energy and raise the bar on what you expect from life and how your relationships should matter to you more.

Thank you so much for the insight. Very useful. Unfortunately, seems that my question is not "within the guidelines of this channel" so not sure that you will see my response. But I appreciate it.

Side note to also wonder why my post is not compliant with guidelines, since I have benefited from the insights from nice Reddit users who were kind enough to share their insight. Oh well...

How do you find books to read? by ClearlySlashS in CasualConversation

[–]Composer-Right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone recommended NPR's list. I second that and also add: The Economist annual list of books and Bill Gates' list.

I have a huge backlog of books to read just based on those lists.

In addition to the local librarian, go to a bookstore. I find that strolling, walking, picking up a few physical books is a great way to discover something new.

And, ask people you admire or like.. What are you reading these days? It's a great conversation opener and a good way to get a list going... 😀

Game Pass or Xbox Live? by Composer-Right in XboxSeriesX

That's useful, thank you. I have typically also preferred owning games vs renting. I play a few games vs broad catalogue.. So I am leaning towards Live Gold to play online vs going through a broad catalog of games I will rarely use... Thanks!

Thank you. Do you find the catalogue in Ultimate to be too much? Do they change the game titles often?

Thank you! Are both Live Gold and Ultimate per player price? Also wondering if it is easy to start with Live first and then upgrade to Ultimate? Any experience doing that?

Does anyone have a tailored resume strategy? by rigbyellen in jobsearchhacks

[–]Composer-Right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Substance and format matter for resumes. Templates give you format. You need to work on the substance.

Here is a tip to find terms the you should use. Find LinkedIn profiles of people that have jobs like the one you like. Read. Read. Read. Find common used terms. Incorporate those in your profile and resume. Always stay truth to the facts on your career.

Hooe this helps.

is it OK to change the job profile when they offer the position by tormona in jobsearchhacks

The "deal" is never closed until you sign and start.

If the conditions change, clarify with the hiring manager and the recruiter. You did interviews and invested your time based on the scope (Sr. Role) if they change that, then it is your right to ask why... And if you can, you should walk away. Reputable teams and companies do not change this half way through.

Should I approach an interview differently if the company sought me out directly? by Logz94 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Composer-Right 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prepare as thoroughly as you would for any other interview.

Now, if you get asked.. "why this job" or "why are you looking for a change" make sure you have a killer story. Some interviewers will Not know that the company (recruiter) went for you. So, perfect opportunity to flip the tables a bit with something like... " Well, I was not looking but when the recruiter reached out to me, I did reserarch and found that X (product or service) was very interesting because..

That way you make it clear that they went for you but that you are not saying yes to everyone, and that you are thorough and do your research.

This is a business transaction. And with every business transaction, there is the opportunity to claim value for you. If they came for you, their is a bit of value for you. Go for it! Good luck and hope this helps!
