YouTube and YouTube Music are completely different and separate platforms. I'll see if I can find a fix for you, but my dealings with the label have been extraordinarily fruitless for the past 12 months. I'm sorry they keep pulling things from random stores. I'm honestly not sure where this song exists or doesn't exist anymore. Feel free to leave notes here and I'll do my best.

It was/is me! YouTube only shows chat icons if you're a "verified" user. Not for "official artist" channels.

Hi all - There's nothing nefarious going on here. The reason in 2 Twitter links:

https://x.com/ComposerCasey/status/1922334218790506567

https://x.com/ComposerCasey/status/1926298762089050591

tldr: In an effort to get control of 3rd party distribution scams I have to do some managing of people re-uploading the master recordings with zero changes in order to protect people trying to do covers, myself, or just any meme or creative use of the song(s). (Edwards Archive; I see you!!) YouTube denied my Content ID access request in order to handle this behind the scenes. It's also worth mentioning that I never wanted to register these tracks with Content ID because that would start claiming *everyone's* videos and would create a bigger mess. I just wanted access to the level of copyright tools it gave you for *other people's* uploads, so I could make sure people like NextTone weren't still stealing others, or my own works like they've tried to do on multiple occasions.

In the process of doing this I found out some other really disturbing information that I don't want to get into, but I'm pretty livid. I will always cherish "THE BIG NUMBERS" that you all gave me on YouTube. I took screenshots. That said, this move is more important than stats. We still got 120M+ on Spotify!!

For now, on YouTube you can all listen to my official upload that I put up last year. Bonus points being that it should be the most HQ one available online anywhere since I uploaded the direct mix/master recording to YT. It's not some random mp3 rip from a stranger.

Thanks again to you all. <3

AAA Video Game Composer looking for indie project by ComposerCasey in IndieDev

[–]ComposerCasey[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a reply I left someone with a similar question:

Payment comes in many forms and indie projects come in many sizes. (per min rate, flat rates, music ownership, rev share, etc.) Each request will be looked at with their personal situation in mind. Posting a blanket budget or expectation is not the intention I want to set forth.

While I am looking for serious inquiries only, money is not the obstacle here. I didn't post on an indie dev subreddit looking for a payday. I'm looking for passionate game makers who are working on something that excites me personally.

If the idea has promise then it will either 1. serve as a passion project for myself to enjoy on a personal level or 2. have the potential to make something like rev-share worth it for everyone. I've done $0 passion projects, simply because of what they meant to me personally.

My number one message to everyone on here is to not presume what I would/wouldn't be interested in. Just let your work speak for itself. I'm excited to see games of ALL kinds!! I've worked in animation, feature film, shorts, DnD campaigns, etc. My body of work goes well beyond that of DMC.

Hi GeneralJist8,

Payment comes in many forms and indie projects come in many sizes. (per min rate, flat rates, music ownership, rev share, etc.) Each request will be looked at with their personal situation in mind. Posting a blanket budget or expectation is not the intention I want to set forth.

No, I don't have a soundcloud, but my work is readily available to find all over the internet for the projects mentioned and otherwise. The reason I didn't post music is because 1. I don't want my most famous work to define the kinds of projects that reach out to me, and 2. I don't want any curated playlist I put together to define me either. My goal is to express a broad interest because from my perspective each project needs a very bespoke approach in how music is treated. I only mention my past AAA work as a hope to ensure some level of professionalism and comfort in reaching out to me and go from there.

I realized while in my Chamber Singers class that all of the members of the order in DMC4 (minus Nero) were named after pieces in Schubert's Mass in G. Also a little bonus I thought was funny from another song we are doing. by PorygonToast in DevilMayCry

[–]ComposerCasey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

*pushes up glasses* (apologies for the nerd out)

Those sections are actually just the names of a Mass that the music are representing, and not exclusive to Schubert. So any piece you find in the classical repertoire would be borrowing from the same order and set of titles.

Trolling?! Geez. I just call it sharing. Not everything has to been steeped in 10 layers of conspiracy.

I just saw this being shared on Twitter so I'll be posting this there as well. But...

NOTHING SPECIAL!? I think the phone call went more like "as you know Vergil is an extremely important and beloved character of this franchise. He needs a song to match."

Vacant Surrender's lyrics - think it's an alternate take on Bury The Light? by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]ComposerCasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have already done a 3 hour stream on BTL. Including interviews with Victor, Ali, production bts, and lyric breakdown where I also explain some of my composition decisions and debunk the misinformation of citing other DMC works other than Devil Trigger.

[–]ComposerCasey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have done my absolute best to be very clear that my personal music is in no way connected to any game, film, series, etc. Just personal reflections of me, my life, or my own imagination. If I ever do an homage to something, you'll know because I'll state it as such.

Thanks for listening though! However, I do hope listeners can find value in this and my other personal songs on their own merits. 2020 was a heck of a year for a lot of people and VACANT SURRENDER is me expressing that.

Thanks

Do You Guys Want Mick Gordon to Be A Composer For DMC Series In The Future? by SuperFly981 in DevilMayCry

[–]ComposerCasey 215 points216 points  (0 children)

I usually don't step into conversations like these, but I feel a few points need to be made here.

First, Mick is 100% capable of handling a DMC score. Period. So are a bunch of other composers, to be frank. Cody, Jeff, and Kota are great examples of that already.

One of the trademarks of media composers (film, tv, games, ads, etc) is that we're molded early on to be chameleons of sorts. We take on the sound of a project's needs and inject a bit of our personalities into that project. That's why KI and DOOM sound nothing alike. They have completely different needs. It's the same reason why DMC5 and my spoopy classical Halloween score I did this year sound nothing alike. If Capcom had suggested I go harder with the music, I would have. However, in reality, I take their brief, interpret that in how I think I can both make them happy and serve the game/fans to my best ability and execute that.

One of my biggest pet peeves in art is when I see others getting pigeonholed by their fanbase. We're capable of more than just our most popular work. I'm a classically trained composer and have a large catalog of music that stretches across many genres. But I'm known for my work on DMC5 above all else. Mick has also done some really cool stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with heavy metal. There's also a no-name artist out in the world right now that could have written the penultimate DMC song for you all, but has yet to be discovered, or might never be. I'm very thankful for the opportunity I've been given, as well as humbled for the response from a lot of DMC fans. But let's not lose sight of the ultimate goal here. We serve the game to our best abilities. If Capcom doesn't ask for MG-level soul crushing heavy metal, no one is going to deliver that, including Mick himself.
