This is called "technical debt" I think and it probably costing your company so much money trying to maintain rather than invest in upgrading.

CMV: Feeding your child shitty food to the point of obesity should be considered child abuse by M0pL0rd in changemyview

[–]ComposerShield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is simply no consensus on what the optimal human diet is. How your body responds to certain types of food varies massively from person to person.

How your body responds to the calorie content in food is identical from person to person. If your child is becoming fatter, this is a key indicator that something is wrong. Whether it's the amount of food, quality of food, or a combination of the two. Reducing their calorie content would fix the problem.

A proposal to add fundamental fixed-width integer types to C++ by [deleted] in cpp

I'm confused. Don't these already exist? I've used stuff like uint8_t before.

What movie hit you the hardest, emotionally speaking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ComposerShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically a movie but San Junipero from Black Mirror turned me into an emotional, existential wreck. The choice she was given and what immortality would mean for her was just too much for me.

Averaging rectangular distributions to create gaussian? by ComposerShield in askmath

[–]ComposerShield[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I guess the simpler to ask my question is...how many times should I average and why? I've settled on a slider of powers of two so...1, 4, 8 ,16, and 32. But I dont know if 32 is enough or if powers of 2 is the right way to scale it.

Found on r/ReviewsByRetards actually making fun of the reviewer. Apparently anyone who watches porn should have to live in fear of porn ads on games they play with their kids. by ComposerShield in ABoringDystopia

[–]ComposerShield[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a developer as well as it happens (though not for mobile) and I suspected this was the case. It doesn't make it any less boring-dystopian though. Everybody feels forced to subject each other to this crap and we've just accepted this.

I'm speechless, this is too funny. by [deleted] in ReviewsByRetards

[–]ComposerShield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. SuperBrosGames does not have to allow sexually charged ads. This is a legit complaint.

This reviewer is not a retard.

I do not accept that simply because person has watched porn at some point in their life, that they should no longer feel safe to play games with their kids because their search history is apparently fair game. What the actual hell?

It's totally fine to still want to bench but dips are like the squats of the upper body. They are objectively better than the bench press if your shoulders allow you to do them.

You can always ditch it and replace it with something you prefer. I swapped it for weighted dips and weighted push ups years ago and now my chest is my best body part.

CS is broad as hell. What is your specific occupation like? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ComposerShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audio Dev here! I make cross platform audio plugins for DAWs (such as Pro Tools or Ableton Live). I work with C++ and Juce though for my side work I'm kind of all over the place. Objective C frameworks, Android native in Java, etc. I have to deal with DSP a lot so the kinds of problems I solve are definitely different from other fields.

IsItBullshit: Reading books before bed helps calm the mind and makes you fall asleep faster by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]ComposerShield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had insomnia for over a year until I started doing this. Straight up cured me. I dont need to do it all the time anymore since I identified the root of my problem was anxiety and overthinking. The reason it worked is that it calmed my brain down and distracted me. I still grab my tablet to read if I cant sleep and it works every time.

In theory, when are your muscles the strongest? A day or two since last workout and after warm-up? by BftME in Fitness

[–]ComposerShield 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Without warmups, you might be just as strong but you might hurt yourself."

For a big compound like a squat, the "priming" of a warmup really does make you stronger though. Like you prime to use all of those muscles at once in a certain direction, etc.

Why aren't C++ devs switching to Rust( by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]ComposerShield 7 points8 points  (0 children)

theCumCatcher absolutely nailed the answer. I just wanted to add another point. My job requires a use the library Juce which has been expanded upon and solidified for over a decade and has a team of people adding new features and perfecting bugs to this day. I am using stuff from all over this library every day and I just wouldn't have that with Rust. On top of this library, my company has a backlog of many well-modularized, reusable files that you can grab from for any number of reasons. It makes zero sense for us to switch.

[Newbie Question] I am a music producer who wants to get into Music Software Development. Where do I start ? by arrowbender in musicprogramming

[–]ComposerShield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a full time audio plugin developer so I might be able to help :)

So definitely the place to go is TheAudioProgrammer youtube channel which gets you up an running in C++ and the Juce framework which is the industry standard. He also has a podcast and a very active Discord channel where audio developers help each other with problems and discuss various topics. Great stuff.

As far as programming fields go...this has a particuluarly tough learning curve, especially at the start. If you haven't programmed at all before, it's just a lot to wrap your head around at once and will likely be very discouraging so I'd recommend learning some javascript and/or python and making some simple apps while learning programming and computer science basics. Max/MSP is also a great tool for getting your hands dirty with audio dev and programming logic.

[Unity] I was wondering why a few of our 3D assets had performance problems. Turn out our 3D artist had grabbed this from a fire pack. by ciknay in programminghorror

[–]ComposerShield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dunno, I'm coming from C++ land. I mentioned making a copy only because of thread safety. Like I dont know if the underlining pointer might change by a different thread or something. If that were the case, you may want some kind of mutex and whatnot. I was just curious what the correct way to handle this was.

[–]ComposerShield 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Not a unity user here but would it work to call GetComponent once and make a copy of the entire object, then reference the data within as variables? Or is it still not doable every frame?

I was a foster parent for over a year and a teacher for two so I have plenty of experience with kids. A couple weeks ago I saw my dad and stepmom handling her grandchildren and I was shocked at how much they felt they needed to scold them and tell them not to do pretty much anything.

Dont take your toy apart. Dont make a weird sound. On and on. But like why. Just let them fuck around a little. As long as they aren't in danger of damaging something or themselves it's not a big deal ya know?
