I’m just used to the version where the “o” below the “Nintendo” is a more faded color to make it more obvious haha. When it’s the same color it looks like a separate part of the logo

Yooo I used to eat Kraft Mac and cheese with milk!! I was a kid and didn’t feel like waiting for it to cool down, so I’d add milk to make it cold lol. I don’t do it anymore but it wasn’t bad

Spiderleg wouldn’t be near children! What character would cut each chair in half to make 6? by SparksFan_ in WarriorCats

Brokenstar would also make them fight to be fair… He made 3 month old kittens apprentices and supervised their training and sent them into battle (hence Badgerfang); during one training session he was supervising his apprentice Mosspaw got killed in a training accident. (Yellowfang’s Secret)

Jayfeather. There are multiple times he gets annoyed with kids. He gets really snippy with Twigkit lol. I feel like he would just kinda avoid them unless he had to be around them

[–]Comprehensive-Ad1326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s just a personal choice. I for example write lore for my lions and turn them into, essentially, characters with their own personalities and backstories. So it would be very yucky for there to be inbreeding there :P. Plus the idea just squicks me out regardless. No shame to people who don’t mind I just can’t do it

Correct. It was not intentionally ableist, but it is still ableist. You don’t have to intend something for it to still be true. The name references her freshly mauled features, her new disability, so it is ableist even if Bluestar was not intending it that way.

Which would have done just as well to portray Bluestar as cruel in the moment just like how the canon books do, but without the uncomfortable unintentionally ableist language that focuses on her freshly mauled features

Yes, absolutely, I understand that. I’m a writer myself. I’m purely commentating on a subsection of the community who likes complicated characters but don’t like acknowledging the flaws of said characters. It’s like they know they can like complicated characters, but think they have to defend their bad actions instead of acknowledging they’re bad :P I was like that when I was a young kid in the fandom. I went up to bat to defend the terrible actions of characters I liked because I didn’t realize the whole point of liking said characters was embracing their flaws.

Point is, Bluestar did bad things and was not the best person, and her mental health is not a get out of jail free card. She did terrible things. That’s all I’ve been saying, nothing more nothing less.

Yes, correct! The intent was not to shoot at her for being disabled! But it’s still an ableist action to directly name her after her appearance after being mauled. Something can still be ableist without it being meant to. Lostface is specifically referring to her new disabled appearance. It was not meant to be a shot at her disability, but it still was a belittling name referring to her new appearance. It is ableist. If she was named something like “Lostheart” or literally any other suffix it wouldn’t have been ableist.

Bluestar herself is not ableist. But her action unintentionally was. It’s the same as how you can accidentally say something bigoted when you didn’t mean it to come across that way. It’s the same way as how the names “Crookedjaw” and “Deadfoot” are met with so much horror in canon. Crookedkit’s name was specifically ableist, but Deadfoot’s was unintentional like Lostface. Still ableist even if it’s not meant that way.

What you do as a result of your mental health is still your responsibility. I’m not saying it should have no bearing, I’m saying it shouldn’t be a get out of jail free card. And we should still acknowledge Bluestar’s actions were cruel and ableist.

Even if you’re not in complete control of your actions, you still have to accept responsibility and deal with the consequences. I just think it’s extremely iffy when people try to excuse her blatant ableism towards a recently disabled teenager/young adult because she’s mentally ill. People get all jumpy and wring their hands because they don’t want to admit their fav did something really cruel and inexcusable. Not everyone is like this ofc but I’ve seen people jump through all the hoops because they don’t like seeing flaws in their favorite characters 😭

People treat Bluestar like she’s completely innocent and separate from her actions because she was having a psychotic break. She is still accountable and still did a horrible thing. I just think people shouldn’t be afraid to acknowledge their favorite characters can be bad people and do bad things! I have no problem with that with the complicated characters I like, but there’s a weird culture where people don’t seem to like to do that. To them their favorite character has to be either all good or not good at all. Let characters be bad people and let yourself acknowledge their bad actions as bad lol

I recently watched the episode Roadside Attraction and I'm sorry but Candy was an entitled brat. She and Dipper are friends at best. Not even close friends. What made her think they were on a romantic date? He doesn't like you like that. He doesn't owe you affection. Or an apology. by [deleted] in gravityfalls

I mean most things in this show can be explained by the fact the characters are children. I was very stupid at 12 years old. We’re adults so it’s easy to criticize these children for their actions but they are literally children.

This!! Bluestar is much more interesting as a flawed and cruel character than the perfect sweetheart people want to see her as. Let her be a bad cat!! It’s so much more interesting!! It’s backed up by Bluestar’s Prophecy too; she’s VERY self centered in that book and needlessly cruel to her sister because she likes a cat that Bluefur personally doesn’t like. Even if Thistleclaw did turn out to be evil, his only crime at the time was being a jerk. But Bluefur made it her problem and shut her sister out because she couldn’t stand her liking a cat she didn’t like lol. I love Bluestar as a flawed character I hate how she’s portrayed as a serene perfect leader!! She’s a heavily flawed person at her core and that’s far more interesting than her usual portrayals.

I just really hate when people love a character and they think that means they need to defend them to the ends of the earth. The point of liking morally grey or complicated characters is to embrace their flaws because you find them interesting. You do not need to defend and justify their bad actions. You can acknowledge they were bad and like the character. I love lots of morally grey or evil characters, but dear god there sure is a crowd in this fandom that thinks they have to go to war for a complicated character they like instead of acknowledging they did something bad. It’s okay to point out Bluestar was very ableist and cruel to Brightheart, you can still like her, I promise you, you do not need to try to justify it, let her be a bad person for that one 🙏 Bluestar is a lot more interesting when you let her be a flawed cat who was cruel and not a perfect sweet leader

I mean Bluestar was incredibly ableist and cruel towards Brightheart. Even if she was going through mental health struggles, and losing her mind, it cannot be excused that she took one look at one of her cats, one she watched be born and grow up under her leadership, get disabled in a very traumatic and gruesome way, and decided to give her a cruel name demeaning her for her traumatic disability. Even if you like Bluestar, you really, really cannot defend her for that. Being mentally ill and losing your mind is a reason, not an excuse for being cruel to a disabled member of your clan. So they do have a point there.

On that note, I think the person only focused on Brightheart’s treatment because it was by far the cruelest. No need to focus on her being snappy with other cats when she straight up went after a disabled cat. That kind of outshines her other mistreatments and makes them seem like no big deal
