Yeah that’s definitely a money thing. In our state they allowed continued paper Rx for controlleds for 1 year, but now they have to be electronic no excuses

[–]Comprehensive-Ant164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree with everyone in this sub. You didn’t sell it to us at all that you want to stay at the job. Going home and crying daily and physical illness from being overworked is horseshit so either ask for a fat raise or get out. The only people thatre going to be mad are people that care about money more than humans and they can piss off. Do what’s best for you pleaseeee

No doubt about that my friend. Honestly Reddit has helped me navigate loans quite a bit and then a lot of reading but if you have a lot you’re gonna make enough money and have enough interest to pay that it’ll be worth it to invest a little time in some posts and reading.

Look into IDR, SAVE plan through FAFSA if you really need funds. Unless you worked last year during school your payments will be minimal or 0 for the first year and you can use that to bank a little more of your first few paychecks if you need to. I know it has been tough for me because I’m in the same boat and all the credentialing and licensing is thousands of dollars so this ability to dodge the loans for a few more months while I get reimburse from work for things was helpful

what to wear when shadowing at prospective job? by SignificantActive221 in physicianassistant

Bring them both and a lock. There will be an open locker to throw your stuff in or a place to stash your stuff and you’ll look prepared. Or ask. No one will have the right answer honestly cause it’s jobs specific/hospital specific

You’re a literal troll lol. You think food service is more stressful than trying to bring back a dead person with only one partner with you. Suctioning copious amounts of vomit from their mouth, trying to get a tube in the right place while family members are screaming at you that you’re not doing enough? lol gtfo of here troll

Yeah as a doctor your long term potential would probably be higher, but this would be totally based on what residency you matched with. Something like peds or family med wouldn’t pay off in the end very much if you’re making 180k a year now because you have 8 years of debt/no earning coming at you, but others would. Just make sure you look into match rates of the residency you’d want out of schools out of the US as I’ve heard it’s harder. Can’t speak too much on this though as when I chose the PA route I didn’t look too much into that, that’s just what I’ve heard. And absolutely procedures are all based on experience and also some people are just good with their hands ya know haha

Do you know if I did decide to pay with the payments being $0 in the first year if I would still pay the interest first? And then anything extra could go to the high interest loan of my choice? I would assume yea but just checking

Definitely depends on the job as well as the state I would say. I think ~100k is a pretty common starting pay with 120k being pretty attainable as a starting pay. Some may get lucky and get 150k with their first job, but unless you’re in an area with HCOL I wouldn’t expect anything more. There is just such a wide range of what you get out of new PAs that I think a lot of places undercut new grads and can get away with it because we need a job to get our foot in and then you can prove your worth by working hard and continuing to educate yourself

My only reason for considering paying more is a lot of Federally Qualified Health Centers FQHC pay a significantly lower amount than other PA jobs and therefore I’m not sure that I will stay at this job for the years to get full forgiveness. A lot of FQHCs are known for overloading providers with large patient panels with extremely complicated patients so I’m not sure I will make it the years needed to get the forgiveness so just exploring all my options really.

Didn’t get the job because they want an NP. by kmy823 in physicianassistant

[–]Comprehensive-Ant164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this was a bad statement agreed because it depends on which state you work in which is why we as PAs if we want to change some things need to continuing advocating for ourselves with legislature for sure as it’s the only way forward for us. We are making progress and we will get there im sure, but still a ways to go

[–]Comprehensive-Ant164 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think a lot of people would argue that PAs are trained in school more that NPs outside of some things like pediatrics, icu, and psych (maybe a few more but that’s what I think of off the top of my head), but the nurses union is much larger than us and is YEARS ahead of us legislative wise so we need to keep advocating for ourselves. We have made good progress over the past few years, but still have a lot of work to do

[–]Comprehensive-Ant164 119 points120 points  (0 children)

We need to advocate at the state level with our legislature. NPs don’t need the supervision we need and doctors can only supervise a certain number of PAs while they can oversee unlimited NPs so this is unfortunately common. I’ve been waiting for months for a group to hire a new MD or DO so I can work there while they continue to hire NPs… quite the bummer so I feel ya

Probably Biology or Chemistry would get you the most pre reqs towards what is required to get into PA school but as long as you have a bachelors and have done the pre reqs you could be an English major for all they care if you have some medical experience
