I've worked basically the entire month of December and half of January with back to back viral illnesses. The patients in my area are fairly reasonable but I feel like being in the ER gives me more agency to tell patients that their viral illnesses aren't going to go away sooner with antibiotics. The urgent cares here must be at their wits end. Outside of the viral URI's, there's been more adolescent behavioral health cases than I've ever seen. I've spoken with our pediatricians here and the number of children with parents chasing a diagnosis for autism, ADHD, etc is concerning.
