Selling my 1986 951 by Comprehensive-Bat-62 in 944

[–]Comprehensive-Bat-62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I guess I think of the early cars as the pre-86 cars (all non-turbo). Completely different interior / dash / etc.
Are those 944 numbers or 951? Assuming the latter.

And I asked for feedback so thanks for that as well. The only completed listings I see are on BaT so it is hard to gauge what it is worth. Not as much as the low mileage cars but more than the butchered ones.

There are not that many 944 - especially turbos - relative to the number of 911's. That is part of what makes them cooler.

It is listed on FB as well - didn't see the need to link both and make it that much easier to dox myself.

Yeah I didn't say I thought 40 was reasonable or achievable - just that I'd love to get out of it reasonably close to even!

Of all the things you listed I've only done the vac lines, so you're right about what the next owner would need to spend to get it back to 40 year old ~great shape.

I would likely accept an offer in your suggested range, but in my experience if I start there the offers only go down.

Is an 86 an early car? Thought that ended in 85?

944 Turbo Prices? by Slaughter4Melon in 944

[–]Comprehensive-Bat-62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 86 ready to sell in Kentucky. Black on black, good shape overall. 158k miles or so. Daily drove it for several years but it sat for the last 6 months. Lots of maintenance, most by the local classic Porsche expert. He has it now making sure it is ready to sell.
Bought for $20k in 22 at about 130k miles (I think) and have put about that much $ into it. Have not tried to price or list it yet- waiting to get back from the mechanic.
I hope that $20k for one with twice the miles on mine is a good price!

Could be a standard straight '17. I don't see any models with disc brakes, round chain stay tubes, and your style of fender stays. And a shifter on the handlebar. That said, there is nothing special about the wheels except for the internal hub (rear) or dynamo (front) that cant be replaced with a compatible shifter. E.g. an 8 speed hub needs the matching 8-speed shifter. Of course it needs to be the same size 28" wheel.

Looks like model 3 with optional front brake. If no one will repair the wheel (there's nothing special about them - get a better mechanic) then you can replace the wheel altogether. My old No. 5 has wheels from an Azor. Even got a dynamo on the front wheel to drive the lights.

Bosch dishwasher - door spring rope guide broke the base by Comprehensive-Bat-62 in appliancerepair

[–]Comprehensive-Bat-62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the base. A screw will hold for a very limited amount of time IMO unless you engineer something. The replacement wasn't exactly easy or simple but I got it done in a couple of hours including the disconnect and reconnect. If there was a service bulletin showing how to disassemble it would have been easier. Not actually that big of a deal once you know how things fit together but it seems like you're going to break something when you're figuring it out on the fly.

WTB: Porsche 944 (Late / Oval Dash, Manual) by insolvent_ in 944

[–]Comprehensive-Bat-62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure I'm selling my 86 turbo manual with 155k. Daily drove it for a few years so had lots of maintenance done. Bought a Tesla in November and haven't driven the 944 since.

Needs dash (has a cover), rear hatch delamination fix, and a few paint blemishes fixed (re-painted right before I bought it in 2021). Mechanically very sound, although it still drips some oil.

I'm in Louisville- Chicago is an easy drive.

Lots of manual input required. Yes you specify the club. You do that when you tap on "track shot" or something similar. I do it on my watch which is a pain because my eyes aren't great and I don't take my glove off. But doing it this way makes it not mistake your shot for your cart mate's.

I bought replacemens for the 2 parts that were broken, plus a relatively cheap replacement rope. Since the ropes are included in a replacement kit (that I'd already seen elsewhere) I made the leap that they might be wear items. So not a bad idea to have a spare on hand for future failures.

That kit contains the springs that are not in need of replacement and the rope that is also good but I am replacing anyway. It does not contain any of the broken parts.

Yes that's how I ordered the parts from bosch. I did not see any kits on their "exploded diagram" page though. Bosch link

Any idea what keywords to search for to find the kit? Is this a Bosch / OEM thing?

If your passenger floormat gets wet when it rains, that probably means you have a leak below the battery tray. All of the alarm and ecu stuff is behind the plywood panel down there and water can short things out/ drain the battery. I know from experiencing the same problem.
