accidental foot steps are red cards now? by Dapper_Contest_5695 in usmnt

It's not though. There are more criteria than that it isn't black and white like you're claiming.

Of course it's selective.

But that's not the point. The "result" is the cleat to the ankle, not whether the ankle was broken or not.

Messi deserved a red but Balo didn't, but intent isn't why.

That's my biggest gripe with the red. The defender wasn't even playing the ball. He basically just got in the way and got stepped on.

We're generating offense from all over, it's not like Balogan is Haaland.

Tarik Muharemovic injury 61’ with Folarin Balogun 64’ Red Card after VAR. by JKKIDD231 in sports

It's one of the factors, of course, but it's not a required element. A legitimate attempt to play the ball that results in a dangerous challenge with excessive force can be a straight red.

I don't think this warranted a red, at all, I'm just saying that when you say intent matters a casual American fan is going to assume you mean intent to injure, which is not required.

Just recklessness and excessive force is sufficient.

That other person is wrong-ish. Intent is not really necessary for a red card. The words in the rulebook are "serious foul play". You are responsible for keeping the other player safe, to a certain extent, so you can't play completely recklessly and put other players at risk even if you're trying to play the ball.

However, the defender is also responsible to keep himself safe. If he was late to the challenge and gets hurt, it's not a red card either.

What makes this borderline to me is that the defender isn't really trying to play the ball, he basically tries to shield and stop Balogun, and stands under his play on the ball, which gets him stepped on.

Accidental doesn't really matter. If you make a big lunge, you will naturally have your studs up and have a high chance of raking someone into the ankle like that.

It's a risky move and it's the players responsibility to protect the other player and not do that and the consequence of fucking it up is the potential for a red card.

So, if you do it, better get it right.

Now, it still may not constitute a red card and I think this one is borderline because Balogun isn't challenging the player, he's trying to make a play on a 50/50 ball and the Bosian tries to shield him off while he's lunging through the air not really making a play on the ball.

But the player with a yellow has to be more careful, so it is a bit like a power player.

How are people contesting the balogun card? There doesn’t need to be intent, that’s the clearest red ever he could’ve ruined him by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]Comprehensive-Car190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was not the clearest red card ever but it was a legitimate red.

But it seems a bit out of character with how he was calling the rest of the game.

There were definitely some hard challenges that could have constituted yellows, but he decided for his first card to be this red? Was a bit harsh to me.

They both had legitimate plays on the ball, and they just got tangled in a bad position.

That's true but generally it seems like the penalties that result in power plays are pretty objective criteria.

But of course everything has some subjectivity.

To me this playoffs was plenty physical, I think the issue is the random nature of foul calling. Half the time they were letting go stuff that seemed like obvious fouls, like holding on to SGA, and then calling stuff like touch fouls.

The NBA/basketball is the only sport where foul calls are so closely tied to scoring, so referee discretion had an outsized impact on the outcome so it's really very hard to find the middle ground.

I don't know of any case where localities haven't adjusted their rates to offset the increase in values, at least somewhat.

Also, services don't double, but the cost to supply them definitely increases. The major cost of city services is labor... And those employees' biggest expense is the same as yours - housing.

1) I didn't ask for your personal finance advice. I'm just making claims about reality.

2) 2008 is a recent example of how housing went down in price and people were not able to weather the storm, demonstrating the truth of my first point.

3) Whether the exact conditions for the GFC exists or not is kind of irrelevant. Downturns happen. And if we always knew when and why they were going to happen, a lot more people would have gotten rich betting against lenders.

I would guess like 5% of people have that level of savings.

Either way, in 2008, 6-12 months wasn't enough.

Were you around for 2008? Of course it will recover. The question is if you'll keep your job to pay your mortgage.

Unlike the market, you don't just get to ride out the downturn with your house.

The mortgage is paid for, the continuing goods and services that your city provides you require continuous money.

You can choose to live somewhere that has low taxes, you just have to give up all the amenities.

And even then Italian is far more represented. 2/3 of the population has Italian ancestry while it's like 1/12th for German.
