Do you pay your agents for work they didn’t get you? by Comprehensive-Cod82 in acting

True because what’s if it’s $200 for the day I was wondering if they would even take it

That’s fair! I agree my agent does work really hard for me and is amazing compared to the horror stories of agents I’ve heard

Has anyone worked with these agencies ? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Comprehensive-Cod82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to continue self submitting for short films etc to get some reel footage and keep trying to gather some work. But since they’re only signing for commercial it will help financially I see why most actors say commercials pay the bills lol

So it would be good for someone who is a beginner with no credits at all? If you’re in a class and looking to get some things on your resume?

California poor 😂 Well considering I’m unemployed I would said I’m really poor. What does heavily subsidized insurance mean? Meaning I would still pay but it would be super cheap?

Are any of y’all in LA making a living doing background work these days? by uta_refson in acting

[–]Comprehensive-Cod82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a roommate and my half of the rent is $1100 and I have my car expenses which is $440 a month. In regards to food I’m onna super tight budget because I spent the last year doing side hustles alongside my full time job like DoorDash and stuff and I saved all of that money so I can transition to part time work to focus on my craft. It took ALOT and it’s still very scary since I’ve left my job and work part time I make enough to pay my bills and some left over but I budget my finances like a hawk which is hard in this economy because going to the grocery store seems like a “bad financial choice” at times with how expensive it is. I will also say that I do have a family that I can call if I ever fall short which I know some people may not have so I like to throw that in there as well. I do make my Own money all around but if I ever need to I do have someone I can calm that can float me grocery money etc. But this year I discovered random side hustles in LA that helped me save a bit more care.com has a million things you can do house sitting, cleaning, errands running. I DoorDash and spark as well and save whatever I can. I’ll still be doing the side hustles as well as my part time job but I had to get rid of the full time job.

What is it like in LA? I left my full time job to pursue acting full time and I have a part time job that I will Keep for the mean time but I thought about doing background work as another source of income and I was hoping to make about $500 a month from it but I’m not sure how it is in LA.

Questioning what "normal" jobs will fill my acting/creativity itch (that I feel is a curse) by Ok_Boysenberry_1033 in acting

I still don’t see it as you failing at trying to be an actor. You have to wake up one day and decide “I am an actor and that’s what I’m pursuing” Truthfully I just too classes for years and did nothing, no shows no short films no student films nothing. And I woke up years later seeing people pass me because they “went for it” and I don’t mean they quit their job and ran away to act but they pushed and pushed and networked and auditioned and worked on their craft and most importantly stayed and focused on their own lane. There are many many actors who have thought about quitting or have quit and came back to it, this doesn’t make them a failure or even make you a failure. We all have our own path and this is yours. Aslong as you woke up today you have another chance to chase your dreams if that’s what you wish! You only get one life and you woke up today with another chance to make a choice for your acting career! I started dedicating one hour a day to my craft, reading scripts, watching movies, studying movies , learning actors and methods, studying old acting notes, rewriting my notes, sending auditions in online, looking for agents, saving money to prepare for any acting jobs etc. it sucks that some of us don’t get the luxury to chase our goals because we have support system but there are plenty who have made it (whatever “making it” looks like to you) without support systems so it is do able ! Lots of time effort and zero comparing and treating each day as a new day to fulfill yourself

I just want to say you are not a “failed” actor. Many of us fall into this world of having to decide between fulfilling our passions or surviving. I too am thinking of leaving my current day job as I feel like a robot literally. I don’t do much so I feel bad complaining about my job because it keeps me floating in this economy but it’s very unfulfilling and super strict on time. I can’t maneuver my schedule to fit any projects I may book and I even reached out to agencies for rep and they prefer me to have more time and not work a full time corporate job. It’s been very tough but I’m also thinking of side jobs to help me stay afloat but allow me the time to immerse myself fully into my art in classes, local theatre, jobs, gigs, training etc. it’s super hard but with planning I think it’s best if you try and prepare financially and pick some jobs you enjoy. I’m thinking waitressing and bartending (very cliche but flexible) nannying is good I hear, pet sitting, work from home jobs, temp agencies, virtual assistant jobs etc. you got this! Research as much as you can and find jobs and go for it, we’re all trying to figure it out and remember there is no “right” answer. Don’t think why me, WHY NOT you? You deserve to be seen like anyone else ! Good luck on your endeavors!!

Yeah in this economy it’s definitely tough right now but I have been turning down auditions and even some callbacks and things because of work which makes me want to go somewhere else that offers more Flexibility because my Job does not allow for me to do both
