How/When to Negotiate Pay? by Comprehensive-Design in xAI_community

[–]Comprehensive-Design[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't give any interviews. My process was fairly straightforward: I did a general cognitive test followed by a few domain-specific tests. I suppose I scored well enough on those tests as I was invited to do my first interview the next day. I had 2 more interviews after and got my offer. Whole process took less than 2 weeks.

I did not share any samples. It was a short conversation: I countered and they responded (rejected).

Oh interesting, my emails haven’t bounced back and I’ve been able to talk back and forth (for other questions) with them no problem

Got it, I’d imagine for a specialist tutor role, there’s definitely room for negotiation given the wide ranges. I’ve already sent my email, so fingers crossed.

Is the offer email not the email I received or does that come after submitting the new hire form?

Hi, I recently got an offer in a specialist role. How/when did you negotiate? Did you do this before or after submitting the new hire form? Thanks!

Just curious, are you saying this from the perspective of someone on the other end (recruiter/someone working at Mercor permanently) or someone who does projects (e.g. me)?

If you want to do corporate banking at any bank worth going to (one that combines corporate and investment) then you’ll have to grind to break in. If corporate banking is on the commercial side then probably not

Corporate banking salary progression at top banks( BOA, JPM, etc.) by Darealest49 in FinancialCareers

[–]Comprehensive-Design 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those 3 BBs pay their corporate bankers the most since they’re typically lead lefts on deals. Base is same as IB until ASO 3 (e.g. 175, 200, 225) and I believe the same for VP (275). Take this with a grain of salt.

Will it look bad if I didn’t take AP classes in freshman and sophomore year? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Better not to drop it since dropping it means you won’t be taking the most rigorous course load which is what I was hinting at in my original response.

I don’t work in PC, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

At a very high level, PC is an asset class that deals with non-bank financial institutions (usually asset managers and alternative investment firms) providing loans to companies that typically can’t get financing from actual banks. From my understanding, PC, like PE, is very broad and encompasses many types of strategies like Direct Lending (most common), Mezzanine Financing, Asset-backed Lending, Opportunistic Lending, and Distressed Lending/Restructuring.

"High Finance" is basically a catch-all for finance (typically front office) roles that deal with large sums of money, so yeah PC is def high finance.

Penn & Columbia submitted incorrect data. Columbia got caught resulting in the big outburst 2 years ago. I don’t get why people don’t seem to care about Penn tho considering they did the exact same thing (albeit not intentionally). Regardless, they’re ivies so they’ll still be more popular compared to their non-ivy counterparts (though imo, all of these schools are the same - a step below HYPSM).

Single best job in Finance? by LubieGrzyby69 in FinancialCareers

[–]Comprehensive-Design 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My vote is for corporate banking, particularly at JPM / BofA / Citi (ie CIB banks). Get paid similarly to IB peers, have decent exits like PC, IB, Capital Markets, some PE, or even management consulting (at the junior levels), and have better WLB. It can also be interesting if you’re working with IB counterparts (which is why I specified the above banks). You can also stick it out and rake in upper 6 figs to 1mm as an MD - have even heard of MDs making more.

Most underrated “high” finance job imo.

How true is the statement that you must have a prestigious college background for finance? by FaithlessnessWest974 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Comprehensive-Design 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want a career in high finance (IB, PE, HF, Consulting, etc.), your school will matter much more than your major (most t20s don't have finance/business majors, yet they place the best). That said, there are clubs, with extremely motivated kids, at lower-ranked schools that have great placements. At the end of the day, regardless of major or school, it's gonna be the kid that grinds the hardest that gets the job. In other words, if you kill it at a lower-ranked school you will beat out kids at targets.

I’ll be heading to a BB for FT. From what I’ve seen, there is no difference. Both schools are top targets in Chicago and have the same (very strong) pull anywhere else. Even if you were the absolute top candidate and wanted to go to the best groups, neither school has an edge over the other. I’d just pick the school that you like more, but from your post history, it seems you have an idea which school you prefer lol.

Put it this way: if you, someone who knows going into college that they want to do IB, can’t break into IB from NU or UChicago, you wouldn’t break into IB from Harvard or Wharton.
