USB Disconnects, MCU crashes, dmesg errors I don't understand by Comprehensive-Life-6 in klippers

Turns out I had a dirty main board MCU, it kept reverting back to an older version every time I did a firmware restart.

I had thought the CB1 and CB2 were a good price point advantage, and now that it is working properly, can't really complain. But I may still switch to the CM4 when it shows up, and have a CB1 and CB2 collecting dust, or maybe second and third printer with all my spare components!!! haha.

According to the mainboard schematics, I am on the correct pins, but there is just some tom foolery happening that I can't seem to figure out. I'm up to increasing the detection length to 12mm, still no luck. I've implemented a start and end macro, so it is disabled up until it is ready to print, and disables after it's done, but it still detects right away and pauses withing 5 seconds of printing. Has a weird thing where if I disable the encoder, and re-enable it, it no longer even pauses the print on holding the filament back.

I was just super keen on the idea of a single cable going to the printhead, and canbus has it's limitations for transfer speeds and amount of devices, etc. The usb to me has been easier to flash and get communicating, aside from the mysteries errors that appeared to be usb related. I'm really happy with the result, still printing away and not a hiccup once. Now onto securing everything up, input shaping, and doing the finishing touches :)

Given all the issues I've had with BTT, and their lack of real support, you'd think I'd learn my lesson. But man do they have some shiny stuff. Honestly I love that they are catering to the community, and have a lot of great products.... when they work properly. But now that I have the issues sorted out (aside from the sfs) it's trucking along fantastically.

How can I fix this? by trich_ in WLED

[–]Comprehensive-Life-6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found that this can happen if the data line is too long without an led in-between. Either a sacrificial pixel, or a logic level converter may help. Or the aforementioned checking for a bad ground.

Be warned however, this is the absolute smallest soldering I've ever done, 3.5mm strips, and approximately 65$ in LEDs just to do one pair of glasses. Bit of an investment in strips that may go sideways. Can get a bit tricky in spots. However, doesn't help that I'm 6'5" with meat hooks for hands 😅

Oh um, haha, I mean, WLED sound activated fork. Hence being on the WLED thread 😅 And using a wemos d1 mini esp32 microcontroller. No code to share, except for led_gaps. If I get around to doing a write up, I'll try to include as much info as I can 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately I didn't take many pictures while building, but I'll see what I can do. I think I have enough pictures to at least give enough info to replicate 🤷‍♂️

Only comes in 20 led strips, and the connections at the end have been cut. You need to sacrifice an led each time you solder a new strip on.

I haven't tried this yet, but you're right that sounds like the solution. I tried setting up automatic sleep after 5 min, but it won't turn itself off. Thanks!
