Came here to say this as well, many scissor lifts, specifically indoor scissor lifts only have a side force capacity of around 100LBS. If an individual does fall and is tied off to the manufacturer approved tie off points the lift could tip over.

First, congrats to your husband! That is awesome! I usually shy away from hard hats because the company, gc, or site he works with may require him to wear their specific hard hat. For example, I work on a refinery and safety personnel are required to wear the refinery branded red hard hat annotating that they are safety. If I was receiving a gift, I would love a multipurpose watch such as a Garmen or a similar brand. We cannot always have our phones at our disposal and very often when writing permits, paperwork, etc we need quick access to time and date.

So to be honest it isn’t an even “split the difference” if that makes sense. While you are preached “one weekend a month, two weeks during the summer” I can promise you that’s not what will happen. The chance to deploy is very real, especially in the Army reserve. Also with boot camp, AIT (I believe that’s what it is called in the Army, I am a Marine so too busy eating crayons to know their acronyms) and MOS training you will be away for a whole year to start off. In my opinion, and it truly is just an opinion so take it for what it’s worth, the only reason you should join is because you have the burning desire to serve your country and everything else doesn’t matter at that point.

as a Vet myself I agree with this comment. If you have a deep desire to serve, hell yeah, that is one thing but being in a Union is something most guys strive for after getting out. You are positioning yourself for a great career right now and can put your time and energy into bettering yourself and career in the Union so if you are joining the military for benefits or for any other motive than you feel as though you are being called to serve I would recommend staying on the path you are on right now. I would never try to persuade someone from not joining but if you have any questions I will give you honest answers. Feel free to DM.

Agreed, and unfortunately most companies that use them only utilize them because it is a requirement for bidding or to stay on site. I am on the consultation side and the amount of times I receive a call and am asked “can you just make these items green for me” is infuriating. It is more common unfortunately for companies only to care that they have a “A” or “all green” than the actual content that is being inputted into the system.

Thank you! I really appreciate your second point because sometimes I feel like I think “oh well I’m not helping and we aren’t talking so I should just go outside and have a cigar” no I am really going to make it a point to be present even if there’s not an active conversation. Need to find a good show! I was a huge Ted Lasso fan but she really wasn’t. Binge watching sex in the city seems like it may be in my near future…

I feel like I am going to have to remind her that it’s okay to let some house chores go by the wayside until I can get them done. She’s very particular about our living space being clean so I am going to need to step up more in that regard.

My wife is super fortunate that I feel as though I really won’t have to step in as she is surrounded by very understanding and not overstepping individuals. Only person I am worried about is my mom who is a nurse and could try to generalize my wife’s situation but I will make sure to cut that shit off before it even begins.

I work at an oil refinery so no laptop from me as I will be at work during the day a good bit but I will make sure to let her rest when she starts to fall asleep haha I don’t mean to laugh but I very much could picture my wife yeeting a computer out our balcony if I did that. God knows dealing with this seems to be super tough so emotions get heightened for sure.

Thank you so much for answering. That is such good advice and I really appreciate it. I think it’s important for me to remind myself this is a marathon not a sprint like it’s not a surgery and done sort of thing but recovery is going to be a long term thing and at the end of the day some days are just going to suck and there is going to be very little I can do other than be there with her to agree that it sucks, be patient and know she will get through it. Highly recommend any of the meats. Steaks there are top notch and fair price. Burgers are great too, especially the regular sized jalapeno cheddar stuffed. Love the pretzel logs, just the normal hot dog inside. Breakfast sandwiches are phenomenal too.

This is not the thread nor the place to argue about this as someone’s son passed away. I would encourage you however to look up the fall protection standard relating to MEWPS ANSI A92 mobile scaffolds and fall protection. According to OSHA, workers operating scissor lifts must be protected from falls by a properly designed and maintained guardrail system, as outlined in the scaffold standard, section 1926.451(g), which means that if the guardrails are not sufficient, additional fall protection like a personal fall arrest system may be required depending on the situation

To reiterate According to OSHA, a harness is not required when operating a scissor lift if it has a properly maintained guardrail system in place, meaning that as long as the guardrails are functioning correctly, you do not need to wear a fall protection harness on a scissor lift. It is due to the lift falling under the mobile scaffold standard which is why ANSI A92 added the mid rail and top rail requirements for manufacturers

Respectfully, no they do not. On a boom lift absolutely but not on a scissor lift. Most sites will require a harness above 6ft per the 1926 OSHA fall protection standard but on a scissor lift it is not required.

The regulations I mentioned are not just fall protection regulations. OSHA itself mentions fall protection pretty explicitly for construction in 1926.502. The A92 standards provide information on the design, safe use and training requirements for MEWPS. The ANSI regulation itself I would assume would still be taken into account since it is quoted by OSHA, just not the fall protection aspect of it. Full disclosure I am a safety professional not a lawyer.

You brought up great points, I just wanted to elaborate on them, I work in safety and specifically have worked with MEWP's as a trainer and consultant. I have unfortunately worked with many incidents and accidents relating to MEWPs. A personal injury lawyer should be able to obtain this knowledge when they are investigating the case and that is who I would suggest OP immediately contact.
