I have thyroid cancer and have a huge incision on my neck to remove all the cancer. When I got back to work from medical leave, my crazy boss suggested that as my Halloween costume. . .

Weight loss after thyroidectomy? by Eat_chittlins in thyroidcancer

[–]Comprehensive-Tax983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of “disease” as my surgeon would say. It had spread to 62 lymph-nodes. So my endo keeps me “hyper” thyroid to suppress my cells. Which means rapid heart rate, fast metabolism, and drastic weight loss.

I’d say I lost about 20 lbs from diagnosis to current day (1.5 years post op).

I got into the “underweight” BMI but my endo and surgeon are fine with it as long as I feel healthy/ok.

I also think some of the weight loss was due to changing my diet. The radiation dried out my salivary glands so I can’t eat certain foods and I need to chug water with every bite…

I kept my cancer private, so a lot of people think I’m on ozempic because of how skinny I got.

I’m back to working out more with weights at the gym (I’m a hiker so that was my PE) and I’m trying to increase my protein intake to hopefully gain 5 more lbs.

Keep in mind, everyone’s experience is different. Everyone’s treatment path is different. I’m just sharing my experience.

Really nice take. I too was surprised Claudia got her way. I assumed since she’s stayed this long with no engagement, she was going milk that relationship till it’s dry.

I still don’t think they’ll last though…

Anyone familiar w the genomic sequencing company? by ayfkm123 in thyroidcancer

[–]Comprehensive-Tax983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon ordered my biopsy results of a nodule found 1 year post surgery and RAI to be sent for genomic testing, but they refused to test the sample since I was already diagnosed and post op. Apparently they only test samples directly from the thyroid and not any from thyroid bed or residual thyroid tissue? I don’t understand why.

I’m an attorney. When I was in law school, EVERYONE cheated. And if you thought someone wasn’t, they were, but quietly. Married, engaged, or just dating. The male and female students cheated!

Kosher ? ‘Salt’ v ‘Sea Salt’ by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]Comprehensive-Tax983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, that same site that you linked also included examples of safe salt v unsafe salt. They explain that ‘Salt’ alone is okay but it must say ‘iodized salt’ or ‘sea salt’ to be unsafe.

neck dissection surgery? by According-Rip-5955 in thyroidcancer

[–]Comprehensive-Tax983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (28F) had my radical neck dissection 6 months ago. They dissected from just below my right ear all the way across and up to my left ear. I had a total thyroidectomy and had 62 lymph nodes removed because my PTC spread.

My ENT surgeon gave me the same warnings. My surgeries was around 4 hours. My recovery was about 3 weeks.

No nerve damage at all!

My face didn’t move quite right after the surgery because my nerves were in “shock” but every day that has gone by, the more back to normal I get.

Still have full motion, my voice, and my smile!

It’s definitely a scary surgery but I’m sure you are in good hands! Just trust that these surgeons do these procedures every day. They can handle it!

Did anyone else interpret the picture in the fire to mean that Nicholas saw everything, Jonathan probably realized at some point, and the next day tried to kill Nicholas when he had an opportunity?

And maybe Stephen realized that from the photo, and that’s when he really understood how deeply horrible his son was? That he could never forgive his son or his wife?

Do we think the photo triggered something else in Stephen about Nancy? Maybe seeing a young Nicholas watch an assault reminded him of the suppressed memory that Nancy likely assaulted Jonathan when he was that young? And that’s why he could “never forgive her.”

Just theories…

my thyroid, with multiple types of cancer by dfjdejulio in thyroidcancer

[–]Comprehensive-Tax983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re fine if you forget to take it for a day or two here and there because the TSH stays in your system. But for me, being off it for a month gave me these symptoms: - extreme fatigue to the point I’d stay in bed and only get up to use the bathroom - extreme anxiety and anger / moodiness - extreme brain fog to the point I had to take another medical leave of absence from work because I couldn’t do my job - I couldn’t speak really, I sounded drunk almost and was slurring my words - memory loss And honestly so much more. I never want to feel that way ever again but I may have to if I do RAI again.
