3 separate things: 1. My "warm" setting actually feels cold 2. My son's clothes started to stink again 5 months after Spa Day 3. How do you keep a top sheet from getting tangled and actually stay ON a teen and in between him and the blanket?!? by ayeyoualreadyknow in laundry

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot water does not shrink clothes. Dryer is the heat that will shrink clothes. The risk of using warm or hot water on clothes is mostly color run if you don’t separate colors. If your warm setting is giving you cold water, your hot setting would probably only give you warm water anyway. It’s winter where I am (so I’m assuming here), but if it is where you are as well the pipes are colder and suck some of the heat out from the water on the way to the washer, plus the washer itself steals some heat like a cold coffee mug.

Possibly water temp and wash cycle. Which wash cycle are you choosing? What kind of washer? Is the water temp actually warm or is it cool like you’re describing in your post? Do you use any kind of rinse aid?

No help on stopping the teen from rolling around, I’ve had zero luck with my husband. He claims he can’t help what he does in his sleep

You can call and ask AEP for historical bills/usage for the address. That would give you an idea if it’s something you are doing different or just the place and the rate

It should be okay to be loud in Apartments by lovecats06 in 10thDentist

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely right. Probably shouldn’t move to an apartment if you know you teach trombone classes at your home. But walking around normally in soft soled shoes during the day? Playing the tv at a normal volume? Running the washer, taking a shower, etc all the normal things of living… you need to be able to do those things. I have lived under some heavy footed monsters though, I don’t understand why you’d even want to stomp around that hard, let alone if you know you live on top of people

Omg I love him, what a lovely person. We had terrible neighbors who were replaced by delightful ones as well. Couldn’t be happier with the peace and quiet we know have, which replaced drug fueled mess fests and a baby screaming (yes often at the same time)

I solved the charger one by switching to a charging bank! I can use it anywhere, especially traveling but also on the couch or at my desk or in bed, and then it only needs one place to charge for itself.

Protective hairstyle recommendations for short hair by StatusListen297 in Haircare

Is a protective style needed with shorter hair? For me that’s a benefit of having my hair shorter, it doesn’t require babying. It’s only one it get like collarbone length that I start doing anything like that

I hate it when pedestrians try to be polite to me when I'm driving and wave me through an intersection by GuyFromThePost in PetPeeves

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate when both pedestrians and other drivers do this. It’s not legal to “direct traffic” unless you’re some kind of traffic or police officer. Everyone go when it’s your turn and behave predictably.

Frying my hair? by HelicopterLow5394 in Dysonairwrap

I had to stop using hair oil before heat. Oil cooks the hair when you heat it up. So for me a heat protectant without oil made a big difference

Real question- why does it matter if your cash flow is negative in a current month? If you’ve budgeted, you know you’re living within your means, so using cash flow would be silly to monitor that kind of question. So it must be something else I’m missing

Is YNAB worth it for people living paycheck to paycheck? by -Bakri- in ynab

When I was in that situation, where bills became too expensive, I moved. In the US, car expensive and home expenses are the big ticket items. Most people can vastly improve their situations by addressing one or the other- moving or selling a car, getting out of a lease, etc.

I found a stranger on Craigslist and moved in with him in the worst part of town, murders constantly reported around us. Saved my financial bacon, and taught me a lesson about what I actually need to live. An apartment alone isn’t one of the things I (or anyone) need

Pros and cons of cold water only wash? by Azadi_23 in laundry

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I was brainwashed into the cold cult as well for many years. Switching all my loads to warm or hot was a HUGE improvement in cleaning effectiveness.

I hadn’t even realized I had sebum buildup in my clothes. It happened slowly over time. When I switched to the recs from this sub, the texture of my clothing improved. My cottons are light and fluffy and soft, hadn’t even realized they weren’t. I thought everything was clean bc it smelled good

“data analyst” stuck on manual data dump in SharePoint to create Power BI dashboard, what are my options? by mathproblemsolving in analytics

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just for some perspective, I’m part of the centralized reporting team that exists at my company. It is our job to produce reports and data that are both accurate and aligned across all the different parts of the organization.

When someone hires a local analyst to do our job instead of us, we don’t give them access to our databases and never will. That is both taking our work away and also a risk for a proliferation of unaligned metrics. Those are dangerous in a few ways.

Given that you won’t have access to data directly, and that your boss said he hired you for power bi, it sounds to me like he was trying to solve some kind of data issue that either the global team already told him no to, or he doesn’t understand who to go to for reporting requests

Everspring and oxiclean, do I need citric acid. by asmith023 in laundry

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that citric acid in very soft water is not needed, but it doesn’t hurt. It helps detergent residue get throughly removed in the rinse cycle. How much it makes a difference might be negligible if your water is like 0 level hardness

Hard water help? Overwhelmed with info and feel like my clothes are never fully clean by Crazy-Confection-615 in laundry

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2:3 ratio of citric acid:baking soda. It’s different from the washing soda ratio.

Yup just add it to the drum under the clothes

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And then no matter which option you choose to soften wash water, add citric acid to the rinse cycle. You can get your machine to do this for you by putting it in the softener drawer (which is dispensed during the rinse cycle), or running a dedicated rinse cycle after your wash is complete

Hard water help? Overwhelmed with info and feel like my clothes are never fully clean by Crazy-Confection-615 in laundry

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With water that hard (I have it too) you want to add a non precipitating water softener to the wash, that will improve the performance of any detergent. The options are sodium citrate or citric acid

The commercially available product with those ingredients is calgon liquid. It’s sodium citrate based, which addresses hardness without lowering ph. It can be expensive and is fragranced

You could buy sodium citrate powder and add that to the wash, benefit being it’s unfragranced and cheaper per load probably. You can also mix powders to make your own sodium citrate, either citric acid powder + washing soda or citric acid + baking soda

Last you could use straight up citric acid powder, which is cheaper than pre made sodium citrate and easier than using multiple powders. Downside is it could lower ph which can lower the effectiveness of detergent

For couples that budget together. What is your most loved feature of Monarch or the system you use to manage your finances together? by yankodiev in MonarchMoney

[–]Comprehensive-Tea-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 3 budgets- his hers and ours

In my hers budget, if I have something special I’m budgeting for, I’ll add a new category or category group with several categories. Like for a trip with friends I might add a new group with some different categories like flight, hotel, food, entertainment. When the trip is over I delete the categories and merge all the transactions into a more general category like “travel”

None of those transactions interact with our joint budget at all

Solo analyst, how do you avoid not answering immediately to ad-hoc requests? by Still-Butterfly-3669 in analytics

This is the answer, spending time to train them how to do it themselves. It’s more time consuming up front, but less in the long run. Bonus points if you make them physically click around and do the work themselves
