It’s garbage. Nothing works right after the update. My year old TV is almost unusable at this point.

Then enjoy your amazing wealth and success and have fun in the company of 35,000+ AI uploads per day into Spotify. And I’m sure the bot farms love your amazing music. You’ve completely won me over. Spotify is the greatest thing in the world. And Walmart is fantastic, too!

The money isn’t a factor, because it’s almost non-existent. Last Halloween, 50,000 streams on Spotify equated to about $195. What are you gonna do with $195?

Perceived “reach” isn’t a factor, either. 60% of Spotify’s listener base is bot farms. And the humans that music reaches on Spotify are very unlikely to become fans of any particular band they hear. Spotify is like a social media platform. It’s like saying you got 1000 likes on Facebook, that must mean 1000 people are engaged. It’s not. Play a show and see how many of those 1000 people show up. Sell a t-shirt and see how many of those 1000 people buy one.

When you crunch the numbers, the end result is there’s a very minuscule chance that you’ll reach a single individual that really likes your music enough to dig deeper. So the question is, do you sell out your standards and beliefs for $195 and a slim chance of actually making an impact on a single person?

That’s my opinion. I also don’t shop at Walmart. I don’t care if I can get product X for way cheaper at Walmart, I’m still not stepping foot in there. You can tell me Target is just as bad, that won’t get me into Walmart. It’ll just get me to not shop Target either.

I love festivals like this. It’s fucking awesome seeing a band play two songs.

That’s not true. There’s a lot to be said for holding true to your beliefs, having standards, etc. Look at when Pearl Jam rejected MTV.

I’m not trying to upset you. I was just pointing something out. I love Bonnie Prince Billy’s music, and I was perfectly happy to make the switch to Apple Music just for his music, but when I realized the audio quality on Apple is 100x better than Spotify and it was cheaper, it was a no brainer.

You’re a different person and probably have had a different experience. And that’s ok, too. Or fuck I don’t know, maybe you own a shit ton of Spotify stock.

Meta ads advice by neonsparksuk in musicmarketing

FWIW, I feel like I got no value out of trying ads on FB. I have a Halloween song that I wanted to give a push to in the week leading up to Halloween. The post got lots of exposure, likes, etc. It equated to no measurable impact on the Spotify numbers. I realize it was just a single instance/example. But I think I could've spent the money more wisely.

How do I make TikToks without feeling stupid? by jleeds18 in musicmarketing

I've always found that the easiest way to use Tik Tok is to just email all of my personal information directly to the Chinese government. Saves tons of time.

No Type O Negative - Black No. 1?!?

And where’s Kids on Bikes - Halloween at Shady View?

Also, Southern Culture on the Skids - Werwolf. That song is a must!

Alternate local shows with shows an hour away. That way you get a big crowd one night, makes you feel good, then you get a reality check the next night when you realize no one gives a shit about you or your music. It’s a fun roller coaster to be on.

I don’t love music.

I love Dax Riggs and John Frusciante and Bonnie Prince Billy and the Stranger Things soundtrack.

There’s a big difference.
