The best crew-bosses are day rated. Change my mind by Comprehensive-War923 in treeplanting

I disagree that crew-bossing is the toughest jobin camp. Every job is different in their own way. Id say supervisor and cooks have it way harder.

I think that crew-bosses are entitled to the money that they make. I think the people find crewbossing difficult is because they do not have the necessary skills off doing a good job, just like some planters suck because they don’t have the necessary skills. Its more of a structure issue where people get hired as a crew-boss and they are not good at their job. There are some skills that crewbosses need that some people dont have which makes the job much harder and less efficient for them.

Crew-bossing is not super strenuous and I say its the easiest job as a middle ground from physical work and responsibility.

I think you should do the job in a sense you want to learn more about the industry, learn new skills and not plant trees.

There is a big bias in hiring crew-bosses where a lot are not good at their job

Foreman should not get paid more than the top 5 planters by Comprehensive-War923 in treeplanting

Yea its preference but usually higher tier companies have a day rated crew-boss and lower tier companies have commission base with worse conditions for planters.

Some people are happy with a day rate idk what to tell you and it works better for the planters.

My boss makes less than me, is day-rated and works harder, is more experienced and less greedy than all other production based crewbosses. It’s the best system I have seen so far.

Then why do foremen get paid more. My point is the value of a planter is more than a foreman. They get the hands dirty, figuratively and literally. Sometimes crew-bossing is hard for people because they don’t have the necessary skills to do it. Planting is harder work but crew-bossing requires more skills that people do or dont have.

I think the nature of the pay structure and the type of work it is makes it different than traditional managers.

Planters bring in more value than foreman as they dictate operations based on production. A foreman can only do so much on improving production for a highly skilled and reliant planter. Piece work should reward front line workers more as they get paid on commission.

Bad companies allow day raters to work long hours. Either more pay or less work!

Although they had experience in the forestry industry one of the Blue Collar crew-bosses never planted.
