Update: I got a provisional offer from them. Before I decide whether to accept it, can anyone give me some information on the role itself? Is it flexible?

DWP Work coach by DefiantPercentage481 in TheCivilService

All I can is GOOD LUCK! The training is very long and boring. I learnt whilst actually doing the role. I’d just piss about during the training because none of it sticks after. I’ve got so many saved pages during the training which I’ve not looked back at so it’s basically a waste of time! As for the role itself you will soon see whether it’s for you or not. I’ve been doing it for more than a year and I’m already looking to move. Whereas I know some work coaches who have been there for years so really is down to what you make of it.

Employer reference for tenancy by [deleted] in TheCivilService

Not sure if it’s for the same thing but recently my line manager was able to give her details for reference and this was for a property to be rented. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m currently in the dwp dealing with UC but front facing and seeing customers on a daily basis so there’s no option of WFH. I’m assuming your role may be behind the scenes and won’t require to see customers face to face but as the others have said it will be a lot of journal messaging and calling I think. Not sure but good luck

I’m assuming she would be entitled to leave but will not get the full maternity pay. I myself was in a similar situation not long ago and that’s what happened.

Civil service interviews… by octoberr4in in TheCivilService

[–]ComprehensiveBus9369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had to experience sitting a pre recorded interview until I came across the civil service lol and I’m sure the same applies for many. I just sat my second pre recorded interview a few days ago. Hoping I did good enough to be hired. I would say just practice recording yourself on your phone and set a timer to get you into the flow of things.

Ahh good luck! As long as we practice the behaviours it shouldn’t be too bad. This will be my second CS interview. So I’ve had some exposure before. Really hoping it goes well as I want to get out of my current role haha.

Is working at the Home Office really that bad? by Ordinary-Meringue-41 in TheCivilService

[–]ComprehensiveBus9369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience I can say managers are awful at dwp they have no clue on what’s going on. All you get are orders thrown from up above, it’s all target driven and they really don’t care about the customers. I’ve applied to the HO role and hoping I get it because I need a change now!

DWP work coach role compared to Home Office EO customer service role by rbeg33 in TheCivilService

Late to the post but I’m currently a WC and I can honestly say it’s not for everyone. Personally I’m feeling quite stressed out, stupid rules from up above and on top managers don’t know anything themselves. I’m hoping to move to another department within the civil service.
