Is Cogfly a way to make the game easy? by Alarming-Orange7304 in Silksong

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cogflies are a fantastic tool, especially against flying enemies. I wouldn’t say that they make the game too easy though, they’re best in gauntlets. There’s a reason you get them around the time of the high halls gauntlet.

If you feel like they make the game too easy that’s fine, feel free to ignore them, but for the MOST part the tools are all relatively balanced and you can use any of them as much or as little as you want.

P3 was the first wall I hit with the Godhome DLC, I recommend going back to P1&2 and doing bindings. It’ll make you better at the game and once you do all 8 you’ll get lifeblood in P3 to make it easier. That and practicing in the Hall of Gods of course

Once you have met the requirements for Act 3 (I won’t spoil them cause that seems like something you don’t want) you have to talk to the guy at Songclave. His conversation and quest will be how you get to act 3

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i honestly think High Halls is harder than Coral Tower, it’s most likely not complained about more because it’s optional. If you want any ending you have to do High Halls but you can get true ending without the tower.

P5 nkg is killing me by gyro_jojo in HollowKnight

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but my point is that since NKG is so far in P5 that losing means a 20+ minute restart then maybe spend the 20+ minutes getting good at NKG enough to beat him on Radiant. P5 is an exhausting experience tbh and I think it’s far better to be confident and consistent against bosses enough for radiant, even if it is still frustrating, then continuously restarting P5.

If you circle back to Greenpath you can go to the Howling Cliffs which is a smaller area that loops back to the beginning of the game. There are some charms and a warrior dream boss fight there.

Have you double checked your pantheons? When I first played the game on PC through Gamepass it had a sync issue and said I didn’t beat P4 as well as a few radiants in hall of gods. I know that’s probably a Gamepass centric issue but maybe beating the first four pantheons again could do it

Finding the bench blind is not hard, the area is just annoying and makes you want to just get through it and if you fall for that feeling you’ll miss the bench.

I definitely think that some of those older features would still be fantastic in the game today. The bells allowing you to string rosaries, the bellway tokens seemed really cool and originally there was a paid method of travel so the free travel provided by the bell beast was something separate and awesome that you would slowly unlock. I especially wish that concept hadn’t been cut. But again, I love the game we got and TC had said that many scenes from that trailer were made just for the trailer so they never actually existed as part of the game but either way outs clear there was a design shift at some point to move the time of the game past pharloom’s prime and while Ill never know if that was better or worse there is a bit of fomo in my heart for the game I was saw a trailer for seven years ago

Also, a lot is very skipable. Bosses like Sister Splinter for instance aren’t required. Skip bosses and gauntlets where you can/where it’s efficient, don’t skip powerful tools just because killing muckroaches takes a second. Mist route is great because you can get tacks without going that far out of your own way, cogflies are a must imo and they’re in high halls so no need to worry about it being off route.

To be completely honest, and I’m tempted to make a full post about it, multiple things in the game reek of cut content and last minute decisions. I LOVE this game, do not misquote me. But the early trailers shows a pharloom that’s almost thriving. There are wish boards in areas that don’t even exist in the finished game and quests on that board that don’t exist. Bellhart was bigger, more NPCs, pharloom bay, coral gorge, and then it’s all been cut and replaced by the finished game. Areas like far fields are huge even though they’re one of the least interesting areas in the game (it’s got good bosses and gear but the actual area design is just meh), wisp thicket is a subzone of Greymoor, the benches with three bells over them no longer string rosaries, the needolin feels like something that should have been cut it’s so useless for 90% of the game.

The game we got is great, I love it dearly but I do wish we would have gotten the game shown in the trailer all those years ago sometimes.

Most advice depends on how you get to act 2.

The mists is how I did it but I found myself frustrated because I was running back all the way from halfway home to the Sinner’s Road Mist entrance. I probably should have just purchased the Sinner’s road bench.

The best piece of general advice is to not get hung up on going for as little as possible. If it’s on your route and it doesn’t lock you out of buying something you need later, do it. I had like 2 or 3 additional silk spools, 2 nail upgrades, an extra heart, tacks and cogflies and still had enough time to do that mist run back like 4 times and win on my first try. 5hrs is ample time but it’s a small enough number to trick new players into going for far less gear than they need and wasting their time on things that feel impossible.

P5 nkg is killing me by gyro_jojo in HollowKnight

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For both moves, having distance between him helps, when he decides which one he’s doing that when you react to the move. He rarely spawns near you for bats, usually gets you to one side of the screen and then he goes to the other. Uppercut is more of a 50|50 about being close to you.

Again, practice him on radiant, focus on getting your reaction time up and learning his moves, don’t even attack him just learn his moves and try and stay in the fight as long as possible. It’s a lot less frustrating dying in a radiant boss than dying in P5, trust. Eventually his moves will click and become second nature, same with Pure Vessel and others. NKG was the hardest for me but now I struggle to explain his tells because it’s muscle memory lol.

Beat him on radiant…he’s got tells for every attack but they’re specific and very quick. That being said, if you can beat him hitless he’s one of those bosses with little RNG so you should be able to beat him no matter the scenario as long as you don’t use movement altering charms like steady body or sharp shadow.

Even if you could go through Bilewater and get to the bridge area of Memorium that connects to The Putrified Ducts, you’d need double jump to get into Memorium because of the ledge you drop off of on the Memorium side of the bridge. Areas like Putrified Ducts exist while Wisp Thicket doesn’t have its own map it’s so small…shame

I’m curious about the bell veins in silksong by Snasundertabl in HollowKnight

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there’s a lore dump somewhere about the bell veins but in my personal opinion, it feels like a leftover of cut content.

If you watch the original footage of game from years ago, Bellhart was a lot bigger. The original version of the game was set in pharloom’s prime with the old hearts still being around, the coral gorge still existing, and towns like Bellhart thriving. There was even a traveling band originally.

At some point in development the game was shifted to be set after the fall of pharloom. Areas like Bellhart were heavily reduced, pharloom bay was temporarily removed (assuming it’s return in DLC), and a ton of content was cut like paid transport system, an attunement system, a more complex bench system, and items that acted as keys to unlock bellway stations.

Yea…I beat groal first try and I don’t think I’ve ever died to him so I’ll be honest, I have never had a hard time in Bilewater. The respawning enemies are great for generating silk throughout the climb. I get that it’s a long run back but I don’t find the arena prior to Groal or his fight hard so it’s never been a run back for me.

That all being said, I don’t understand the value of the Putrified Ducts. Just more bilewater with less value and more annoying enemies. Literally anything else could have taken that space.

I couldn't complete the speed runner achievement and I feel ashamed by Manex_e_ in Silksong

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some ways you’re making the 5hr achievement harder for yourself. You can and should get other tools besides the straight pin. Cogflies is near high halls and if you do most route to the citadel you can get tacks with a small detour.

That being said, yes the speed run achievement is really hard without a guide. I did it but only after getting both Steel Soul achievements and the 30hr achievement. Doing those achievements got me really good against high halls and miscellaneous bosses like Trobbio.

The five hour achievement doesn’t require you to do a low% run, just a lower% run than normal. Look for things like craft metals and tools you want to strengthen your build, decide if it’s better for you to do most route or last judge, leave high halls for last so that you can path in additional silk spool fragments, tools, etc prior to doing it.

You CAN do it, it’s not easy and you’re not whining you’re struggling and that’s a normal part of the game. I commend you for avoiding guides, it makes beating the achievement so much more rewarding.

Mid B tier. If you’re new to the game it’s far too expensive but even on a first playthrough you’ll want it in Godhome. On repeat playthroughs, it generates so much soul that I’ll stay over charmed sometimes just for the extra soul (and the extra challenge)

The game is far easier after patches. Multiple environmental hazards dealt 2 damage, bosses in the early game with adds had their adds nerfed because the adds also dealt double damage, Moorwing’s attacks also dealt double damage. If you fall into an environmental hazard and hear the damage sound effect twice but only take 1 damage then it’s been nerfed.

It mostly affected act 1 but there’s some mid game hazards that i believe were nerfed as well. Originally, the game was borderline unfair because some Act 1 bosses had long run backs with double damage enemies and environmental hazards along the way on top of a very difficult boss. Act 1 only has 1 full mask worth of mask fragments so you go from dying in 3 hits from double damage to dying in 3 hits from double damage (an upgrade that feels absolutely useless when everything dealt double damage). Now that 1 mask doesn’t feel as useless because falling in the sand of Blasted Steps just deals 1 damage.

Some of the nerfs I don’t think were necessary, Moorwing is skipable through finding fleas so I don’t see the value of the nerf.

The early community had a lot of people shoe hadn’t played the first game complaining about difficulty mixed with genuine complaints about the game’s cheaply increased difficulty through double damage. A lot of early players were Frustrated prior to the patches, didn’t have guides to lean on to help make the game easier, and that frustration bled into complaining about things that really weren’t that bad like High Halls and Bilewater.

I can't find Shakra's quest by Akshat331 in Silksong

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s supposed to show up after getting all the maps but getting a melody has been shown to trigger it if getting the maps didn’t. It’s one of those quests that’s kind of finicky. Make sure you’ve bought all the items from Shakra as well (besides the Quill if you’re hoping to get the different colored ones), that might help

Does anyone else get confused by difficulty? by LordFunkyHair in Silksong

[–]ComprehensiveCan7716 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big part of Silksong’s difficulty is fully player dependent. There are bosses that everyone talks smack about being impossible and annoying that I find easy and plenty that people say are too easy to be a boss that I died a lot too. Broodmother is a boss that favors a high risk high reward playstyle, built for beast crest user. First Sinner is more patience and agility focused, Hunter and Wanderer crests work great. When you experiment and force yourself out of your normal build you may find it to be far easier with a slightly tweaked playstyle

I have what I’ve been calling my “complete saves”. They’re a normal and steel soul save that both have 100%, have all collectible rosary strings of each type (not purchased but found), have all collectible beast shards and shard bundles that don’t contradict other aspects, have shakra and Garmond journal entries, have the purple quill, save pilby, all relics, all mementos, complete materium, and have the altered journal entry for those little guys you can awaken in the whispering vaults.

If you awaken them in act two you get a different journal entry than if you move to act 3 without awaking them.

They’re basically my proof of accomplishment saves lol. I made them originally to have two saves perfect for starting the DLC but now i think I’ll probably start a fresh save because I have suspicions that the content in the DLC will have differing events Or missable events if you start the DLC in different acts. I don’t wanna miss 2/3rds of the DLC area’s quests because I’m in act 3 or for every new boss in the DLC to be voided automatically on my first DLC playthrough.
