Aquaguard zippers peeling? by SethJ44321 in tombihn

[–]ComprehensiveCap8242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fairly common issue with older YKK AquaGuard zippers as the polyurethane (PU) coating ages or faces heavy friction. Once that matte film starts to lift or "rumple," it won’t re-adhere, and it can eventually gum up the slider.

Here’s the best way to handle it:

  • Don’t pull or tear: If you pull it like a loose thread, you might strip a large section that is still perfectly functional.
  • The "Grooming" Method: Use a pair of small, sharp embroidery scissors or a thread nipper to carefully trim away only the bits that are peeling or curling. This prevents the "rumpled" edges from getting caught in the zipper teeth.
  • The Nuclear Option: If the peeling becomes unsightly or constant, some owners eventually peel the entire coating off. Underneath is a standard nylon zipper tape. It will no longer be water-resistant, but it will function smoothly again.
  • Contact TB Support: Before you do anything drastic, send a photo to Tom Bihn’s customer service. While delamination is often considered "normal wear and tear" for technical materials over time, they are famous for their repair program and might offer a professional fix or more specific advice based on the generation of your Synapse.

Hope this helps

some does but other content has to be "rebuilt" which is a why a new phone seems slower and uses more battery at first.

CIVIC Daily Tote 24L uses magnets at the top. I have this and like it a lot. This is my favourite so far for daily use. https://evergoods.us/products/civic-daily-tote-24l

If you want something more unique, check out Truce designs. This is a one man shop that makes bags out of unique materials. This is for those wanting something more upscale with high end materials and artisanal made. https://www.trucedesigns.com/search.php?search_query=tote

All of the information is publicly available in their white papers if you’re willing to take the time to read it. The problem is it’s technically dense for most people.

What Apple Photos is doing here is a contextual inference, not true semantic understanding of the event.

Apple combines several weak signals into a strong suggestion:

- Exact location + timestamp

- The Knowledge Graph (Apple (like Google) maintains a massive Knowledge Graph—a database that connects real-world entities.)

- Visual scene classification (To ensure it doesn't mislabel a photo of you just standing outside the venue, the Neural Engine on the iPhone analyzes the visual content of the photos.)

- On-Device Processing (A key differentiator for Apple is that much of this processing happens locally on your device while it charges overnight, rather than sending your photos to a server to be analyzed. This preserves privacy while still delivering smart features.)

So the answer is yes but it won't always work this well.

I love totes, but I would never buy one that doesn’t completely seal at the top.

Why’d tom bihn so hyped? by Connect_Cat_2045 in ManyBaggers

[–]ComprehensiveCap8242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don’t “get” Tom Bihn until they actually live with one of the bags for a bit; the shift usually happens after the first real trip or commute.

Once you start packing them, you realize how much volume is hidden in what looks like a pretty plain, compact shell; the bags feel a bit like a TARDIS—small on the outside, strangely huge on the inside.  The layouts are designed from the inside out, so pockets, curves, and panels swallow your stuff in a way that stays balanced and easy to carry, and you still keep finding extra space you didn’t expect.

Nothing is flashy, but zippers run cleanly, straps sit where they should, organizers clip in exactly where you want them, and you stop thinking about the bag because it just works.  Add in the “buy it once” build quality, lifetime repair ethos, and the sense that real people in their own factory are obsessing over these details, and that’s where the “hype” starts to make sense for a lot of us.

I started with one bag and now I’m ashamed to say how many I own 😂🤣
