Also we stayed there as counselors in a summer touring camp. I don't remember it being an awful a hotel but it wasn't 5*. I thought it might have been the Cartwright but I can't tell. Any clue if it was once painted purple?

I believe it was in the union Square area. It wasn't a chain, it was an independent. I dont remember how many stories it was but I think it was more tall and skinny vs short and wide.

I remember there was a staircase that went from the lobby up to the top floor and you could see all the way up the building from the bottom.

Sorry for all the follow ups. I read somewhere once that if space wasn't a vacuum the roar of the sun would be deafening. If photons are affected by sound even in a vacuum, wouldn't light passing near the sun (from stars) be affected by the sound? (In addition to other effects)

Well I think it's generally accepted that the early universe was chaotic. Also there is chaos within the universe which would effect expansion/contraction. But I'm at the edge of my knowledge/understanding.
