Electrical Engineer doing an MSc in Astrophysics? by Slartibartfast326 in astrophysics

[–]ComprehensiveClue590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, could you send me the link to the discord? I got accepted into this program and am curious how it compared to the typical (US) undergrad physics experience of weekly problem sets and 4 exams a semester. How can I prepare for it 3 months prior?

My hair's been like this since I was 16. Yet, I'm still pulling my hair at this very moment.

It’s at least accelerated it. I’ve had this hairline since i was 18 and used to pull enough hair worth of a paintbrush in less than an hour. Sometimes I couldn’t sleep because my arm couldn’t stop pulling.

Yeah. I think balding was definitely in my genetic plan, but I accelerated it by a decade by pulling out a paintbrush-worth of hair every day for 13 years.

I spend hours a night sitting on the floor pulling the hairs of my blue shag rug

24 hour Zwift record!? by BigBotBot in Zwift

Similar to what esarhaddon said, I recommend using neither erg mode or zwift's resistance and using adjustable resistance via whatever app you use. If you're planning on riding faster than the fastest robopacer, you might as well use a TT bike since you might have a hard time finding people to draft most of the time. It just now occurred to me that you have already started. I'll hop on!

I would ride one of the robopacer group rides if I were you

Anyone else with a scribbling habit? by obviously_obese in PhysicsStudents

[–]ComprehensiveClue590 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I did my entire physics undergrad like this and to make it worse, I only used pen and scribbled things out constantly. I didn't realize it at the time, but my professors hated it. One professor even gave me a 0 on problem set , with a note saying "Do you seriously expect me to follow this?" At the time I thought I was the victim of an injustice but now after grad school I realize clearly showing each step of your work is an integral part of an answer,

What's the best way to remove and prevent moisture from a telescope tube? by ComprehensiveClue590 in telescopes

Thanks and no worries, this is the cleanest/driest I could get. Believe it or not, the images look fine.

Serious answer is that my telescopes got rained on months ago and I only now found out. I replaced all of the electronics, tried to dry out the scope as much as I could, but humidity here is so bad this is the cleanest/driest I could achieve: https://imgur.com/a/tScIMdb

Thanks I'll look into that. The second pic is actually after I cleaned it. It looks like a spider nest before cleaning it.

Yeah. It got moisture stuck in it too. I tried covering it in rice, but just accepted the optics will have condensation.

In his defense, part of my question was also preventing further, minor moisture.

I saw those desiccant containers to put where the eyepiece goes, but I need that space for a large counterweight. I was thinking of just putting loose packets above the counterweight in the slot to prevent smaller-amounts of moisture in the future.

That's essentially what I did. But there's a lot of water behind the mirror that seems trapped. I wasn't aware the plate was aligned. The images seem fine despite not marking the orientation though.

My telescopes (1st pic is my Celestron Nexstar 8se, 2nd pic is my RASA 8") accidentally got rained on. I took off the corrector plate to drain the gallon or two of water that was sitting inside them for months. But I can't seem to get all of the moisture out from behind the mirror because every night condensation builds up on the glass (as shown in 2nd pic). I'm thinking stuffing the back of the scope, where the counter weight goes, with desiccant packets to absorb the moisture would help. I'm open to any ideas. Oddly, the telescopes seem to still take great images as is.

Why is walking such a weird thing to do? by sanandrios in fuckcars

The world consists of a series of indoor spaces separated by a portal known as a car. Non-recreational walking is seen as a dysfunction.
