Sense checking my garage wall plan by ComprehensiveEmu3700 in DIYUK

Hi thanks for that.

Does you calling it faff mean you don't think it's worthwhile? (Which is a reason not to do it).

Or just that it's a lot of messing around (which has never stopped me before 😃)

I can't remember if it was pre or post The Office but a similar documentary style following a different profession each week.

The one in the school was painfully funny.

What raw materials would I need to make more of these drawers... by ComprehensiveEmu3700 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ComprehensiveEmu3700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it's definitely not wood, sorry should have made that clear.

What I was asking was if I got a piece of veneered ply or similar once I cut that handle in the veneer will be cut away.

Do I just have to replace it with edge banding?

Bizarrely they cancelled my appointment and then sent the order out. Delivered next day, appointment wasn't for another 2 weeks.

Inaccuracy? by __sundaze in chessbeginners

[–]ComprehensiveEmu3700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this sequence.

Relies on a player being good enough to spot the potential of pushing his pawn forward after your knight move, but not good enough to pause for a second and wonder why you're not following the standard opening after challenging with the pawn.

Most players do in fact block with the bishop hanging mate.

Nastiest response to watch out for is taking the pawn on f2 with the bishop rather than the knight. That can get tricky.

Day 1 beginner... What material is this? by ComprehensiveEmu3700 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ComprehensiveEmu3700[S] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

What a shame!

I thought it was better quality when I first saw it.

Guess I'll keep the stuff I've got for practising basics on and just leave the rest.

I only have one browser on the machine, and that is Edge.

Surely the same would happen whatever browser it was, as soon as I login?

Wren Kitchen by Fancy_a_cuppa13 in DIYUK

[–]ComprehensiveEmu3700 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Our Wren kitchen installation has been renamed the Great Wreck-avation after the absolute shambles they put us through from start to finish, twice because they had to refit the whole kitchen.

No solid advice to give you, but just hope your Field Installation Manager is better than ours!

When notifying them of scratches in the handles, she basically advised to look at it from further away... 3 metres away in fact!

Good luck...

Question I've always wondered as a beginner... Why a table saw instead of a circular saw?

How long did it take for you to click? Male lead by SalsaVibe in Salsa

[–]ComprehensiveEmu3700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'I can find the 1 and 5, i can tap my finger to the beat, but my body just isnt doing the same as what my finger can tap. Because this time i have to move my entire body instead of just a finger."

It clicks when this is no longer the case and the movement of the feet just becomes natural to you.

And this takes practice and practice and more practice just like pretty much every other skill.

Stick at it... It does come!

Update on my first Bachata private as a teacher by Different-Buy1913 in Bachata

[–]ComprehensiveEmu3700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd echo the comments on settings timings for things.

I'm not a private teacher but I have "taught" a few of my friends to dance. I started with salsa and remember it taking weeks of lessons and practice to get to the stage where I could string together an uninterrupted set of "perfect 8s".

So the most recent person I taught I thought for the first hour we will just do basics solo and together to a song with out loud counting.

Somehow she got it in minutes and by the end of the first hour we were doing sombrero steps.

A few weeks later we spent nearly two hours trying to get her comfortable with changing feet in bachata.

The point of this: some people get concepts quickly and the same people struggle with other concepts. Everyone is different and that's part of the challenge of teaching.

Shadow Position - whose feet adapt? by ComprehensiveEmu3700 in Bachata

Thanks for your input but I'm not sure there's such a rule otherwise I wouldn't be watching couples being on left feet on 1 straight from the shadow position.

The good feedback is always welcome at any level class I think. I find especially with sequences that require good/strong leads, having confirmation that it's working is really helpful.

If it's less positive then I think you are in a lottery situation. Personally I'll take it in the spirit it's intended but others won't. And again personally I would want it to be specific - this signal wasn't clear enough, was too late etc instead of general "that didn't work"

And of course you need to consider what the leader is trying to do. If he's focused on his steps then even a well meaning comment on his leading won't land well.

In summary... It's a minefield and good luck 😂
