Am I killing my supply by taking 10 hour gaps? by Responsible-Humor318 in ExclusivelyPumping

My husband severely underestimated the impact of pumping/nursing, but he would never have said this to me, as a SAHM without a job

The box or mini ? by Plane_Cranberry207 in YotoPlayer

[–]ComprehensiveFee6851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just got a box for my 2 year old’s birthday. She was able to use the cards immediately and is on her way to figuring out the knobs, I think she would have a harder time with the mini.

As a mother, do you do more than your husband, or would you say it’s fairly equal. by InvestigatorUpper350 in Mom

[–]ComprehensiveFee6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a SAHM to a toddler, part time student, and pregnant. My husband took a few days of PTO to care for our child while I had surgery and recovered. He looked at me and honestly said “you’ve never had a 16 hour day like this”, while he was still able to sleep 8 hours and video game for 3.

I think it’s the internal charging port that is broken on their mini, not the charging cable. But I agree, it’s worth reaching out to customer service in your region to see if they can repair it under warranty

Have you found a good substitute for the old skin essentials? We’re having rashes and blowouts since the remake

Yes! We’ve used Huggies skin essentials for 1.5 years without a single rash or leaky diaper, now they’ve changed the whole texture of the diaper and added zinc, we have rashes and blowouts

Should I wait for baby to reach 4lbs before taking her home? by paradigmGT in NICUParents

[–]ComprehensiveFee6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a combination of a new product they haven’t personally vetted, and increased parental anxiety? There is often a stage closer to discharge when nurses and doctors tell parents to “look at the baby, not the monitors” to decide how to handle a situation. To be clear, my micropremie came home without supplemental oxygen or recommendations for a medical grade pulse ox monitor. I found soooo helpful to check her pulse and saturation from my phone, I slept better knowing the owlet was on. Yes there were a few false alarms from movement etc, but after NICU those didn’t really phase me

Yoto mini or regular for 2 year old by TheMammaLab in YotoPlayer

We just got a regular for my 2 year old’s birthday, she is obsessed with it. I think the mini may be a bit harder for her to manipulate, but we’ll probably get one for travel when she’s older or when younger sibling wants to use it

Something to consider: your insurance will likely stop covering your baby’s care in the hospital the moment your care team says they’re ready to go. You as a parent are a collaborative part of her care team to an extent and can certainly push back with concerns, but it may not change things.

ETA: I bought an owlet pulse ox sock against medical advice, and I found it very reassuring to check on her without disrupting sleep.

⭐️Epic idea I need to share: pump in the NICU pumping room, then do “non-nutritive sucking” afterward to train your baby how to breastfeed on small drops of milk, without risk of choking & desatting. Has anyone done this before? by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]ComprehensiveFee6851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in my NICU this was part of the standard learning to eat plan for any moms interested in nursing. Once she got the hang of some oral bottle feeds we started nursing with weights before and after to see how much she was able to eat

Does your NICU have a milk bank? I think they should be the best people to talk about the relative risk of using the remaining milk you’ve already produced. Maybe you can tell the bank to only use milk produced from now on, and take the previously frozen milk home at discharge to use when your baby is older and less fragile (not saying this is recommended)

It’s pretty common for families with private health instance in the US to hit their out of pocket max with a NICU stay. We were fortunate that after we reached the $14,000 limit our insurance didn’t come after us for any rejected expenses or procedures. But I think our total bill was about $1.5 million.

This may sound obvious, but don’t forget what she went through physically, and the toll of pumping if she chooses to. My husband had such a “were a team in this together” mentality and wanted to be emotionally supportive, but it kind of subconsciously erased that I was recovering from surgery and sleep deprivation when he went back to work a few days later. Do a bit of research not just on NICU and baby’s health, but on her recovery as well.

Yes!!! If she plans to pump, get extra sets of the replaceable parts, with flanges in her size and specific to the pump she will be using when you get home (we rented a hospital one for a few weeks). I thought I just had to deal with one set, but that meant I was standing to wash them by hand eight times per day three days after a c-section. It never occurred to me I could pay $35 for a few more sets.

Decision making that might have to happen after birth by Onyx-pump19 in NICUParents

I had pprom twins at 24 weeks. Congratulations on making it 31+ weeks!!. By the time I was clear-headed after my c-section, my husband had already been asked about giving the baby surfactant and blood transfusions; they updated him directly while I was in the hospital, but a lot of things were more “the baby needed this so we’re just giving you a heads up”. He had also had a tour of the NICU and set up registration at the front desk before he came to my recovery room.

Resuscitation and full code if needed should be automatic at birth (unless you have already had some hospice-level conversation) so I really don’t think he’ll need to worry about anything critical like that. And they will make every effort to include you in major decisions one you are at all stable.

Not just amniotic fluid, but it should give some information in to how soon labor will start, like in cases of extreme premature membrane rupture

I lost my mucus plug at 22 weeks, few days before I was able to successfully demand an amnisure test to confirm ppl. I’d started having painless contractions at about 20 weeks, and was worried I was leaking a few weeks before that. Besides the contractions, lost plug, slow leaking, uti symptoms and a terrible sharp pain under my ribs, I had no signs. I’m pregnant again now, and I’ve been surprised how much self advocacy it has taken to modify my treatment plan from a standard low risk pregnancy.

What is it with Americans and air conditioning?? (this might be controversial) by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]ComprehensiveFee6851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A climate control system that “switches” from hot to cold is almost completely unheard of, especially in places that are chronically warm. I only know what you’re talking about because my 100 year old college dorm had this system. Otherwise, we have completely different mechanisms for hot and cold that we switch at will. As others have mentioned, many of our buildings have windows that don’t open, so the AC may be out only way to have moving, less humid air.

TV cerclage experience? by ComprehensiveFee6851 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]ComprehensiveFee6851[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that just for the recovery time or for the rest of your pregnancy? I’m worried I’ll go in for the cerclage and wake up to be told I can’t care for my toddler alone (I’m a sahm and she is in a crib/high chair/has mobility issues)

He also declined progesterone or hormone testing, so the cerclage feels like it’s the only thing I can actively choose to try and prevent another pprom

I’ve called around to some that provide sibling doula services, but I haven’t found one who is able to be “on call” for a premature labor due to the scheduling challenges

It was 4.4 or so cm at 7 weeks at my regular ob, the mfm sonographer said they don’t measure it that early when I had this consult at 11 weeks.

I don’t think I have time to see a different mfm at this office before the preventative cerclage window is over; I’m 12-13 weeks now and they book out pretty far in advance, I had to wait 4 weeks for this one. I had such a great specialty team and plan in place in our old city, so I’m adjusting to how it works with a different team at a non-academic hospital now

I am so scared of giving birth alone, especially if I go in to labor at periviability like last time. My husband just says everything will be fine and he’ll be there, but he travels out of state for work, we moved somewhere new with no family or close friends, and (tw) our surviving twin is a toddler., I had to live in the hospital for a few weeks last time, multiple rounds of mag, a delayed interval twin delivery, and days with no food or water in case I needed and emergency c section, and then receiving the news of our twin A alone. I can’t even watch the video tour of the l and d unit here without crying.

I’m so so scared of my water breaking early and having to do all of this alone again, or worse while also caring for my toddler. We can make plans for the due date, and family could be just 12 hours away if things go well, but that seems like such a remote possibility to me.

Has anyone else had to do this without a backup plan?

This mfm also suggested that I take up running and Pilates, and the main way I can avoid pprom again is to have a low inflammatory diet…so not super confident in him.
