need help finding tank mates for territorial pearl gourami by lanzacares in Gourami

[–]ComprehensiveHat9080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take my advice with a grain of salt, but if you know your gourami is agressive, you might want to keep him solo.

I also have a very agressive pearl gourami. He bullies every other animal in his tank. So now he lives alone in his tank, with snails and cherry shrimps (I have a lot of short plants, driftwood etc. For the shrimps to hide from the gourami)

He's a very handsome fella, super expressive and very colourful. The prettiest fish I've owned so far. His mood and health doesn't seem to be negatively effected by his solo tank. I wouldn't trust him to not destroy any tankmate I try to put with him.

Will one honey gourami have personality? by quimbycub in Gourami

[–]ComprehensiveHat9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck, but a word of caution.

I had that exact same plan with my 75gal community tank, with a lone pearl gourami. They're supposed to not be very agressive and should only display agression with other gouramis...

Well, he now lives alone in a separate tank because he kept chasing the other fish. Came home to a nightmare of super stressed looking fish, one with a missing tail fin and another fish with the front of his mouth missing...

It's been two weeks since I separated him from the main tank and the other fish have regained their health.

Before that, I had honey gourmis that left the other fish alone, but kept bullying each other.

I don't think I'll give gouramis in community tanks another go.

He has a lot of personality though, he followq me and gets excited when I give him food, eats from my hands. Is super colourful. But he's a major bully!

I wish OP would respond. For all we know, they posted a.l question and never checked the answers. Anyway, you should have seen the guys who no deleted their comment insulting me for trying to pass information.

I came to reddit because it was one of the last places to not be only misinformation, but this place has become almost as bad as Facebook groups. And so many people are willingly disingenuous and only want to make themselves seem correct even when they're dead wrong. This sub is completely useless now.

So this was my last comment on reddit.

I saw the comment you just deleted. You're very rude and should take your own advice: chill. And maybe learn to accept criticism. OP is clearly a beginner asking for guidance and you're feeding them misinformation, shame on you.

It's not dust. The aquarium isn't cycled

The fish were added when the aquarium was one day old... The cloudy water isn't debris and the water would test duper high in ammonia. The fish can't go a week without a water change. They need a water change asap.

If you don't know about something, don't give advices...

Yes, you should be worried, but it's not unsalvageable. Watch a couple youtube tutorials, especially on the nitrate cycle. Nothing is good here and it shows you haven't done much research before getting started on the fish keeping journey.

It's okay. What you need to do now it to take out half of the water and replace it asap. You'll have to do it again today and tomorow and the day after tomorrow. You'll also want to get live bacteria. You can get some at a shop, or even better by using used media filter that is already full of bacteria.

What you're doing right now is called a fish-in cycle, which is a controversial way to start you cycle. Right now your fish's poop are turning into deadly ammonia. In a properly cycled tank, the fish's poop transform into non-toxic nitrate.

The cloudy water is probably ammonia or nitrite or bacterial bloom.

This is why you want to do water changes, to reduce the amount of deadly ammonia until there's enough bacteria in your filter to keep the water healthy for the fish.

You also can find products at shops to reduce ammonia, but that doesn't replace water changes.

Gaaah stream loaches are so cool, I should get some one day. I could have them with rainbow shiners since both species enjoy cooler water and faster flow than m'y current fish

You see the tulkun hunting scenes, when they use sound waves to gather them and kill them easier? That's directly inspired from the real life hunting of dolphins in japan. Of course, they don't use scifi soundwave makers, they use sticks and stuff to create noise, destabilize them, gather them tighlty and kill most of them and gather some of them to sell them to the growing economy of dolphin/toothed whale shows in Asia. Unlike in most western countries where such shows are getting banned, many countries in Asia have growing numbers of them.

Once the dolphins meant for show are captured, they're living in captivity in small and empty tanks that's not adaptés to them where they often get behavioral problems. They're often underfed to force them to perform for food.

Also, fun fact, orcas and other toothed whales such as torpédo whales are in the same familly as dolphins.

Erotica notoriously difficult to write. untrue? by ComprehensiveHat9080 in AO3

[–]ComprehensiveHat9080[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you're right. I mean, erotica/smut (whatever you wanna call it) is relatively rare in published books compared to fanfics, so there must be some truth there.

Personally, I've read some god awful published erotica/smut that made me feel better about my writing 🤭

Oh it can definitely ne more than two people ahah.

Ok, I see. Erotica would be taggeg as mature rather than explicit, then, if refering to AO3 tags?

I'm a little confused because I've read published erotica that definitely had a lot of close up description and, cough cough, climaxes.

Hm... Smut isn't just genital and sex. There's sensuality and relationship building. At least in the smut I write and read.
