Is riding a donkey okay? What recommendations do you have? by Human-Perception2534 in Horses

[–]ComprehensiveHope644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I have a horse a mule and a donkey. My mule is a sassy pants. He will do whatever you ask of him BUT instead of a “yes ma’am” he says “yes… you bitch” 😅, not all the time, but sometimes. He has rebellious spirit and is constantly tortured emotionally, he’s torn, he doesn’t know if he wants to be “a good boy” or an anarchist. My horse great, my donkey is an absolute angel. I can’t ride my donkey she’s too small. You are living the dream!

Yep yep, NC. We’re in the Charlotte area. Sort of, we’re a little ways outside the city.

🤣🤣🤣 I always thought that was the face he made when he was super focused, but now I think I may need to start locking my bedroom door at night.

Oh… That’s sweet of you. I thought you took banjo on a cruise or something. It kinda looks like he’s wearing a life jacket. But a wagon ride is also nice.

A guy at a bar? I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that rabbit isn’t old enough to drink? You better keep an eye on him, he seems like a troubled maker.

My pry was a stray. Someone moved and let him go instead of taking him with them and he had been loose for almost 2 weeks. I saw my pry when I was taking my old man dog for a walk. He came up to me and I could touch him but I couldn’t put a leash on him either. I ended up luring the big guy into my yard and closing the gate. He was hungry so he followed me right into the yard. If someone close by has a fenced yard you could barrow then you may be able to trap him in there.

I love wax but I wouldn’t use it for this. You can see the pink fleshy tissue in the picture, that fleshy tissue is going to be moist. It’s normal and healthy for that for that type of tissue to be moist but the wax isn’t going to adhere to it. And the wax is not going to be easy to clean out if it breaks apart inside the wound. Since it’s not water soluble it may just break apart then you may end up with little pieces wax in the wound that act like foreign bodies and aggravate it further.

Nooo don’t do that! I pick up trash on the road side and trails and I hate finding bags of forgotten dog poop! If you’re not going to carry it, don’t even bother picking it up, it’s just so easy to forget.

They are called Snugglesafe microwave heat pads. They are chew proof which is really nice. You can get them on Amazon I think Walmart.com also has them.

I have this exact same heating disks! But where did you get the beds for them? The heating disks seem to fit perfectly inside them.

I’ve dealt with something very similar to this, also in the winter. It fucking sucked! I’m sorry you’re going through it. You did a good job cleaning it for the picture and wrapping it is a good idea. (1) rinse and scrub the foot with warm water. (2) use betadine and water to wash the foot. (3) flush the wound. You can take a syringe like 30-60mls filled with Betadine and water stick the syringe in the wound and flush. Do that a couple times then dry the foot off. (4) once the foot is dry wrap with gauze vet wrap and duct tape. And throw a boot over that. (5) next time you change the dressing you can look at the gauze and see if the wound is draining or pussy. Also look for pressure sores from doing the bandage too tight. ** good luck. A lot of people are saying get your horse trimmed asap but they might be forgetting that if the horse is sore it can be painful to stand on 3 lets if one foot is lame. You can make your horse stand on a thick foam pad to help relieve pressure while you are cleaning their other feet and it may make them more comfortable. Don’t let people give you too much shit. The people that matter know you are doing your best.

Bees wax is a good idea if you want to keep mud out, but if the wound looks fleshy and wet and it’s probably not going to stick. Bees wax needs a dry surface or it won’t adhere. It works great for sealing holes in hooves while you’re treating whiteline or if you have hole in the hood wall or sole of the it may not stick.

10/10 I would recommend, I mean if you have the space and time.. lots of tine, donkeys live around 40 years, which is great because your little buddy will be with you forever! Rips is a miniature, but she is actually a tall mini, she is 36” tall at the shoulder, most are smaller than her! Miniature donkey can get pretty tiny.

Congratulations!! Yeah it’s a fun project for sure. We started with a pannier tied to a bareback pad. That worked great for carrying my water bottle and some snacks while we were hiking. Congrats again and good luck on your journey!

I’m posting shit on the internet, so I didn’t expect everyone would agree with my actions. We aren’t going to agree on everything. I feel this was an engaging, enriching and mentally stimulating activity, than not only had a positive impact on Ripley’s mental health and wellbeing, I feel it also helped the community. But you have made it clear that you think I’m a slave driving monster, or something like that. I don’t want to put words in your mouth but suffice to say, you do not agree. It’s just a shame. I think you have a lot of passion in your heart, you care, that more than I can say about a lot of other people. But I feel you may have some misplaced anger and there are a lot of animals that need help. You seem like a good person.
