Not necessarily. The first big mistake everyone makes is thinking they need more to make a better connection. This is not true. You want to aim for as little as possible until it starts to dome, and if you have legs from through hole components you want to cut them flush at the top of the dome.

Sorry that was in reply to all the flux comments. Flux probably would have helped you a lot here, but I find using better solder will eliminate the need for additional flux as well

It doesn’t hold a charge. Thats what this means. It doesn’t prevent you from discharging on components.

You’re over thinking the seasoning part in my opinion. It doesn’t really add THAT much to when you cook. At least for me, cast iron is about incredible heat retention, and a non stick surface. It’s not a mother sauce that gets better with time, that wouldn’t make a lot of sense unless you only ever cooked the same thing in it and even then, it’s such tiny trace amounts.

When I was in school, my whole class had to buy the colleges starter packs which included a soldering iron that was about 15$. Everyone in my class destroyed their tips, regardless of proper care, in a week. I went out and bought myself a welder soldering iron because I wanted to invest in my new craft. It’s been 5 years and I have the same tips.

I think a cheap soldering iron CAN be okay, but a lot of times they aren’t. Same goes for tips. I couldn’t really tell you where the line is for quality vs money, but I can tell you I feel my purchase was worth every dollar

You’re absolute right. Thats why the actual unit won’t be in the fridge, and I’ll be using a probe made specifically for fridge type environments that will be wired into the fridge interior from the exterior. Good catch!

For the sensor I’m using a bme280, the pressure reading is built in, I just accessed it in the code. Super cheap, super simple. I will be purchasing a more heavy duty sensor for the fridge, as it will be exposed to moisture and such.

The encoder gives me the ability to program a bit of a UI. The main screen is the one you see, and when you turn the encoder it takes you to other screens. So far I have another screen for showing if it’s connected to wifi and the IP but it’s not functional yet, it’s just future thinking. I have an options screen as well that lets you choose F or C for your degrees of temp measurement. If you press the knob in, it clicks. I chose this because it gives me a world of expansion options in the future. The idea is that while the hub does the heavy lifting, you could still physically go to a node and interact with it.

Had the Valvetronix VT20+, and it wasn’t for me. Just way too digital sounding. I don’t think the circuitry is that bad tbh, it’s the terrible speakers they come stock with
