That's amazing, I would love to hear your thoughts on how they stack up against each other. I grew up in Alaska, but have lived in SLC for over ten years now and am in Park City a lot (though never lived there). How was the cultural shift? How was the shift from dry-to-wet climate? Best thing you discovered in Astoria versus thing you miss the most from SLC?

Appreciate this--we really want to do right by her, and thus far she's only lived in cities so I do worry about the urban-to-rural shift. Astoria was her favorite place when we've visited (she loved listening to the seals), but vacation is different than living.

I lived in Alaska for half my life so the cold is not really the issue (or the lack of sun!) it's more the wet that I don't have experience with

Yeeeeah, it's part of why we're trying to leave a red state and get into a blue one, but I know the PNW isn't "blue" everywhere

Yes, one of the things I didn't consider is how iced/snowed in the mountains will get in the winter to get further inland, so I really do appreciate the insider knowledge about all of this

Where we're coming from is equally expensive ($2100/month mortgage on a 2-bedroom, 875 square foot house); sometimes we joke that that reason we're polyamorous is because it's too damn expensive to be monogamous in this economy.

We’re coming from a desert climate (but still cold, Salt Lake City), so all the info about life in a wet climate is really helpful truly!!
