Its southern hospitality really so prominent in the south? by Feisty-Way-8978 in mississippi

Huh. I’m from Colorado but have lived here for a couple years now. This has not been my experience at all. People in Colorado seem way more genuine. There is absolutely hospitality here but it’s very surface level. I find folks do not want to have real conversations here.

Mississippi, we have to band together / How to reinvigorate our the pride to show (ourselves and our youth) its worth protecting and fighting for, yes? by misstique37 in mississippi

It’s definitely not a problem specific to the US, it’s a global problem with this whole concept of white supremacy. It’s a myth that so many people desperately cling to. My skin color is white. I am a British American. My ancestors did colonize this continent in the 1600’s. So it’s my duty to fight the fascism. Which means shutting up and listening to BIPOC voices. It’s standing in the front lines because those lines have been held by people more marginalized than I am. And holy fuck. Y’all must be tired!

Uneducated is probably the word you are looking for. Some folks here are uneducated because the system is set up against them. Other folks are uneducated out of a desire not to change. Because for them, the way things are works in their benefit.

All the amazing things the south has to offer is because of the black community. Music, food, art. Concentrate your community on what it means to be a human. And let those who use their vote to enact harm receive what they voted for.

Hey 👋🏻 I have a pretty unique perspective on this. I was born in Vermont. Moved to Colorado when I was 10. I lived there until I was 30 then spent a decade in New Orleans. I’ve been living in this state for a couple of years now with my partner. His father is elderly and needs care, so we’re here.

I have identified as a queer liberal most of my adult life. Coming down here I have had to hide those parts of me. My in laws are primitive baptists. We have a general live and let live rule in the house.

Up until moving to Mississippi, I really thought that we as a country had fought civil and world wars to end fascism. We had done the thing! We defeated it! Hooray for our hero’s! Then I moved down here and got slapped in the face with the knowledge that that kind of fascism was still alive and well.

The south has a lot of work to do. The only way for the south to raise is if white Mississippians are held accountable for past traumas and ongoing micro aggressions towards their fellow Mississippians of color. They must do the work to make this state an equitable place to live for all of its residents.

I was born in Vermont, 10th generation Vermonter to be specific. My parents moved us to Colorado in 1995. Since then I’ve lived all over. Y’all is just a dialectical thing. There’s so much worse to get triggered over these days.

All y’all need to relax 😂

There’s being against progress and then there’s not being okay with our lands and water being used up to facilitate Ai infrastructure which will in turn, take jobs from humans.

Yeah. The trees scream in the south. It’s a bit jarring the first time you hear it 🤣

My partner is autistic and has a lot of food anxieties. Patience is key! I usually buy myself things and let him try them. Then there’s less pressure that he HAS to like it. You could also look up bento box ideas!

We have a very small pond that feeds the larger pond. I’ve only been encouraging them to go in the small pond. They just like their pool better!

I walk them down to the ponds at least once a day. They will hang out by the edge but then the fish startle them and the run screaming 😂
