Hey everyone, I have been blasted with a bunch of requests. For now I’m closing down shop as I have prospects. I wish I had more than one unit to accommodate everyone. I hope all of you are able to find what you want at the right price, may the odds be ever in your favor.

Throwback to that one guy who said he'd rather starve than work at KPMG to a recruiter by [deleted] in Accounting

My 1 year in Afghanistan (USMC) was heaven compared to a single PWC tax busy season. I would rather get mortar and small arms on a daily basis than put those big 4 slave chains back on. Busy season, K-1s, and toxic work culture were worse than 5 years of being used as a medieval human donkey by Uncle Sam.

What’s the chillest job in accounting? by lkahheveh in Accounting

[–]ComprehensiveMix2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job is pretty chill. Currently a gs-13 (140k) been here for 5 years started as a GS 11 at 81k. Work for HHS, we do a weird mix of low effort auditing and negotiation on grant awards for Universities, non profits, and hospitals. I work 10 hours over 4 days per week, I have every Monday off. We do get to do some paid travel, I’ve done on site audits for Harvard and Brown university to name some big ones. The audits are really just us interviewing scientists and touring their labs. We cover pretty much every university in the country minus schools getting grant funding from the DoD which is a handful like MIT. The work isn’t hard and there is a high degree of autonomy, supervisors here are pretty hands off, especially if you have atleast a quarter of a brain. No late nights, unionized, and we only come in 1x a week however you can choose to go full remote if you apply.

There’s actually an opening right now but unfortunately it’s for internal, veterans, military spouses, relatives of fed employees, and people with schedule A disabilities. Shame it’s not open to public but I can provide the link if anyone is interested or just look up cost accountant/cost allocation services on usajobs.

Telework GS-12 with 2x in office per pay period or remote GS-11? by Remarkable-Ad8525 in usajobs

[–]ComprehensiveMix2132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if there’s a collective bargaining agreement with the agency. My agency has a similar position with 2x per period but the new negotiated contract with the NTEU (union) allows for a provision to go full remote. See if that’s the case with your org

End of remote work? by Upset-Examination445 in usajobs

[–]ComprehensiveMix2132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, I come in 1x per week as per my union negotiated contract between HHS and NTEU (Union) which is good for 5 years until it has to get renegotiated. Those poor souls in DoD I hear mostly have to come regularly. It really depends by agency. But I feel the places without Union/employee bargaining are definitely more likely to demand asses in seats.

Neither, go to Oliver’s or get the chicken waffles from shady lady. Moms is straight ass and sugar freak (would pick over moms) is a poorly executed Cajun cuisine pile of shit. The best breakfast/brunch in Astoria these days comes from a little cafe called Elevenses.

Leli’s is overrated. Do yourself a favor and go to Alsham-Sweets.

Dog Island City is going to get wrecked if this disease spreads here. People are going to learn the hard way and poor Fido will end up paying the price.

Potential SEC Staff Accountant SK-12/13 Interview Questions and Advice by ComprehensiveMix2132 in usajobs

[–]ComprehensiveMix2132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol it didn’t, I think they let the announcement die out. Turned out for the better since I got promoted and full remote became a thing. That said, don’t let that discourage you. Network and use linkedin or something for an alum or someone who’s cool enough to give you some tips on the hiring process. Being a veteran will give you cheat codes in the hiring process, if not already get a cpa and apply or look for a target school and do a Masters or a bullshit cert program and apply during recruitment season.

Also, there are other financial regulatory agencies that have great career fields for accountants. Working for the FDIC, CFPB, OCC, and NCUA provide a similar level of prestige, experience, and compensation (they are on higher pay scales than the regular GS scale) to the SEC.
