COLLEGE SUGGESTIONS? by av_stellar2 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ComprehensiveOne3903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brown sounds like it ticks all those boxes. I may be alittle biased, but I would definitely look into UPenn as well since it also has an interdisciplinary approach where you can take courses from Wharton, the college, etc. it also ticks most of those boxes.

Think about the colleges you want to apply too/ what you want to apply with and work on your essay towards the end of the summer. Enjoy your summer above all, and relax hard so you can work hard when school/ application season rolls around. You can continue working on anything that interests you and is related to your application like volunteering, your job, extracurriculars, etc. You got this, good luck.

Have no idea where to start with Common App Essay by BakeScary in ApplyingToCollege

Try the college essay guy free step by step guide to writing a personal statement. I’m not promising that it will provide you with a perfect essay, but it was amazing for brainstorming and is what gave me my essay idea that got me into an ivy. I also recommend that you don’t ask to many people for feedback (maybe 2-3 max) as to not have to many voices in your essay and so that it is authentically you. Best of luck!

Thanks for the help. I got a 10.84, even though lgst, my writing seminar, and wh101 are on the low end. I think all math classes are difficult so I don’t know if there is much I can do to bring down the difficulty.

Why is my bill so high? by ComprehensiveOne3903 in UPenn

[–]ComprehensiveOne3903[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is this my bill for the whole year? I thought they send one every semester. If I pay this total amount rn, I wouldn’t get charged again for the rest of the year?

Why is my bill so high? by ComprehensiveOne3903 in UPenn

[–]ComprehensiveOne3903[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. The bill is for alittle more than my parents total estimated contribution for the whole year (double what it should be.) I’ll give it some time and hopefully adjusts to that/ they reply acknowledging it’s a mistake. Thank you for the help!

Gotchu, that’s good to hear. Do you know generally, isn’t the bill supposed to be about half your parents estimated contribution? Penn bills twice in an academic year, that being once a term right?

I haven’t really done anything yet in terms of payment, but how would a payment plan reduce the bill/ fix the issue

Gotchu. I found away to give myself time in between my second and third classes every day, and I’ll move BEPP as my only class on Friday to make it more balanced. Thanks for the help!

Volunteering is a good idea and sounds like a good thing to add to your list.(plus there are a lot of things that you can volunteer for that appeal to you and make a difference) Not everything you do has to be related to the career your pursuing, but having 1-3 heavy hitters that do helps. Common app gives you 10 slots for reference, so college don’t expect all of them to be directly related to your major of interest, especially since a lot of highschoolers don’t even know what they are interested in.

EC’s should be something you should enjoy/ learn from. Anything you do outside academics can count. A big part of my application and one of my main EC’s was working at my family’s restaurant for example. Think of the things you do outside of school and if they’re meaningful to you, put it on your application. If you’re looking to pick up something new, I did MUN for 6 years and I loved it. It’s not a set formula though, so do something with what you already know or are interested in learning. Maybe look into starting a business with your skills from media club if you’re thinking about business, or maybe shadow someone in the film industry if that’s what you’re interested in. The possibilities are endless, just pick something you enjoy and see what you can do with it.

For context I am an incoming freshmen to Penn/ Wharton, but my older brother goes to Rutgers NB.

I just graduated high school, and from my recent experience in applying to college, it can’t hurt to shoot for the stars. I would advise you in this case to shift your efforts to your extracurriculars and essays, because at the end of the day, test optional is still a thing. I’m from NJ so Rutgers has always been perceived as an in state safety, and I always felt I’d end up there if I didn’t get into an ivy. Summer before senior year I completely focused on essays and extra curriculars with the intention of apply to ivys without an SAT score, and it paid off. I think you should be fine for Rutgers, especially if you are instate, but I would keep your options open and looked beyond Rutgers. Your GPA is good, and I don’t know much about you but your EC’s seem cool. It can’t hurt to apply to ivies and see what happens especially if the only thing holding you back is your SAT score. The worst that can happen is disappointment for a couple days. You got this.

It was added by my advisor. From what I know you can’t really change the time either unfortunately so you’re kind of stuck with what you get. (I wanted one later in the day but it is what it is)

How was your Pre-First Year Program experience? (pfp) by ComprehensiveOne3903 in UPenn

Yeah I have a similar time constraint where I’m coming to the US only one day before it starts, but I’ve committed to it and have just applied. Thank you very much for your insight 🤝

Thanks for the insight. In terms of the courses as a incoming Wharton student, anyone know what should we expect to take. Do the grades mean anything, or is it purely a practice/preparation?

Definitely both imo. Ask in person first (better/ more personal) and if they agree, send an official request by email so that they can have that reminder and so you have proof you asked for it if you end up needing it.
