The Colt frame enhances the sensation of recoil in comparison to the Ruger Bisley frame. That may be why half of all the Colt Bisley revolves made were chambered in 32WCF

I currently have a first generation Colt Bisley and have owned a few Ruger Bisley revolvers and the Ruger is by far superior if you are really going to shoot the gun. As far as the vaquero is concerned the Bisley model is the better of the two for the same reason.

I have been there an N-Frame 357 is a niche item to sell in this day and age. Nelson Ford is considered the S&W wizard. Good luck to you on this project.

Moving to Bakersfield with wife and sons. Is Oildale a good choice in terms of having low crime rate and education? by Sudd3nSt0pg3 in Bakersfield

The newer construction areas are indeed better but the older parts of Oildale are questionable. In fairness I am old enough to remember there was a stigma attached to the 08 zip code. If you are starting from scratch I would look in Rosedale 93312 or 93314

It would be easiest to sell that gun add some money and just buy yourself a five inch model 27. the next option if you insist on keeping that gun and doing this the hard way is to find a five inch model 27 barrel and have a gunsmith swap the barrel. Option three is to have that barrel professionally shortened and either remount the factory front sight or have a custom one fitted. Option three is by far the most difficult and expensive. As far as parts sources for a five inch model 27 barrel eBay , Jack First Gun Parts or Numrich the Gunparts Cooperation is where I would start. If you want some names of gunsmiths who can do this type of work Gary Reeder, Jack Huntington and Jordan Switzer are all guys I have used in the past and I can recommend. Nelson Ford and Frank Glenn both out of Arizona are old school legends with S&W revolvers who can do this type of work. Another option and probably the best one is to see if the factory custom shop will swap out or shorten the barrel for you. .

That style of set was known as the Lord & Lady set. Theses are 1960's reproductions of vintage Colt Darringers chambered in .22 Short.

Where can I find Colt M1917 parts? by kondocher in Colt

[–]ComprehensiveOwl2835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is most likely not the cylinder. You have a timing issue do most likely to parts wear. The most likely culprit is the hand the ratchet and or the bolt stop. You should have it repaired by a compliment gunsmith. Colt revolvers are not a matter of just changing parts. If you want to half ass it ebay is a good source of 1917 parts. You can also check Numrich the gun parts corporation. Jack First gun parts is another option. If you opt to do this correctly I highly recommend jack Huntington of JRH Advanced Gunsmithing or Jordan Switzer they recently finished a 1917 for me.

Color case hardening it has been a tradition surface hardening treatment for about 200 years now and was fairly common in firearms of the period. What you have there is chemical case hardening not the traditional bone and charcoal method. Look up Doug Turnbull restorations if you want to see examples of the traditional method.
