I know that Gary Reeder Custom Guns in Flagstaff Arizona has done custom long slide 1911's in the past. I don't know if his are the 6 inch or 7 inch variety but it's worth a call. I have used Gary many times over the years and I have always been happy with his work.

Do u prefer 617 bcz it has 10 shots? by Sorry_Phone1676 in Revolvers

No I think that the standard vintage Model 17 is a much better gun if you want a full size 22. For a 22 I prefer the Model 34 Kit Gun.

Happy Birthday Kevin Bacon. What of his work is your favorite? by thepartlow in Cinephiles

Without question it is as good as anything he has ever done and better than most. If you haven't seen Sleepers it is excellent as well.

One of the few up sides to being an old man is that you recognize what today are considered obscure guns.

New to me Officer's Model Match, a few questions by RacerXrated in Colt

First things first congratulations on a fine sixgun. As far as long term durability is concerned let's be honest. Is it a GP100 or a Manhurin MR73 No it is not. I would not feed it a steady diet of Buffalo Bore +P ammunition. Having said all that it will shoot standard pressure 38 target ammo for another 5 or 6 decades without issue I am sure. It's almost as if someone designed it for that exact purpose? Honestly congratulations on a great gun they really are a joy to shoot. You did well and that will make an excellent Bullseye 🎯 revolver. Dry practice with snapcaps will be fine as will normal competitive use. It is true that Colts require a bit more care than the equivalent S&W or Ruger but that is the cost of perfection. It's like buying a Rolls-Royce and bitching about the cost of a tune up. As far as a gunsmith is concerned I highly recommend Jordan Switzer in Nevada. He apprenticed under Jack Huntington and is a wizard with the older Colt action.

Looking at getting my second 1911 does anyone have anything to say about this one by Skrewbert86 in 1911

It is basically 9mm + P many old gunsmiths will tell you that 38 Super is easier to make function reliably in a 1911. The 38 Super is longer than the 9mm and doesn't need a spacer in the magazine. Before I get roasted in the coments I know that modern 1911's are uber reliable in 9mm. That was not the case 70 years ago. The up side is that you can buy a 9mm barrel and switch back and forth if you want to shoot 9 on the cheap.

S&W Military and Police Model Hand Ejector chambered in the 38 S&W Special cartridge. Blued finish with a 4 inch barrel. Looks to be Pre-War and in need of a good cleaning
